Joe blames himself for the death of his father, and he still believes that he could have saved him if he was in time. For him, it’s like fighting a match with his tragic past every second of the day.
He wants to chase his dream once again, but he isn’t in any condition to fight professionals. He rather decides to live his dream through Chief.
Joe drives back to the immigrant settlements and offers Chief to help him to win the tournament. Chief agrees on the only condition that Joe needs to give up on drugs and painkillers.
He trains Chief with some invaluable tactics that he followed in his peak days as the Megalo Box champion. However, he breaks down frequently due to the adverse effects of suddenly giving up drugs after years.
He goes through a rough time as his body craves the painkillers. He even starts to hallucinate, where he sees his father blaming him for the disaster his family faced.
The next scene takes us to the tournament, where Chief secures two consecutive wins without incurring any grave injury. Thanks to Joe’s guidance, he feels a lot more confident.
Meanwhile, the locals are trying their best to drive the immigrants away. From mean graffities and cutting their water supply to setting their home on fire, they crossed all the limits.
These terrible acts keep reminding Chief that he needs to win the tournament to secure a ‘paradise’ for the tournament. But will the rest of the journey go as smoothly as the first two matches? Only the upcoming episodes can give us the answers.

Megalo Box is a sincere homage to the iconic Ashita no Joe’s manga as well as anime series. Megalo Box was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the renowned and redefining boxing series – ‘Ashita no Joe.’
Chikara Sakuma launched a manga adaptation of the Megalo Box anime titled: ‘Megalo Box – Shukumei no Shoken.’ It was serialized in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge from February 2018 to August 2018 with a total of 2 volumes.
