Jensen Ackles Might Return as Dean Winchester in The Winchesters

Winchesters actor Meg Donnelly hints that Jensen Ackles might appear as Dean Winchester in the series to reunite with Mary.

A prequel to the popular fantasy drama, Supernatural, The Winchesters revolves around John and Mary Winchester as they fight various supernatural creatures around the world. Though the series tries hard to match up to the vibes of the original series, it lacks the charm of the brotherly bond that was the main attraction of Supernatural.

The show features Dean as a narrator, but does not include Sam, his brother. Thus, the brotherly bond between Sam and Dean is missing in the spin-off.

The Supernatural ended with Dean Winchester’s death and it was mentioned that he would spend the rest of his life with his brother Sam in Heaven. In the prequel, Dean serves as a narrator but has not had any moment of interaction with his parents.

In a conversation with CBR ,Meg Donnelly, who plays Mary Winchester in the series, mentioned that Dean might make an appearance in the series for a reunion with her character.

It would even be cool for Mary to meet Dean again. Just for my own sake — that would be so much fun to work with Jensen Ackles again. I’m not sure. We definitely have lines or scenes that are odes to that, which I don’t want to spoil.

After Supernatural ended, Jensen Ackles involved himself in several projects. He delivered a stunning performance as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3. The show is run by Supernatural’s showrunner, Eric Kripke, who cast him in the role of Soldier Boy knowing his dedication and grit as an actor.

Ackles also lent his voice to Batman in the animated film, Batman: The Long Halloween. Since Ackles now has several big projects in hand, it is unlikely that he will take up a major role in The Winchesters.

However, since Ackles agreed to lend his voice to the show as the primary narrator, he might be open to taking up a bigger role. Time travel did have a significant role to play in Supernatural, so it will make sense if we see Dean reuniting with his mother, Mary, and introducing himself in the series.

The Winchesters will return with new episodes in 2023 and we’ll soon find out if Jensen Ackles will take up a bigger role in the series or not.
