Episode 1 of Medalist started out with the introduction of a character named Tsukasa, who was given the opportunity to become an assistant coach at an ice skating club by a former co-worker. As he started out, he noticed a girl sneaking into the ice ring and immediately realized that she hadn’t paid an entry fee. When he tried to confront her, she ran out of the club, and Tsukasa chased after the girl. After he managed to finally catch up to her, he found out that she was really passionate about ice skating, but was sneaking around because her mother didn’t support her pursuing the sport.

On hearing this, he felt her situation resonate within him, and he gave her a list of all the ice skating clubs in the town and asked her to have her mother look into the clubs to have her join one. He then told her that she was at a good age to start ice skating. Tsukasa started ice skating quite late because he wasn’t brave enough to tell his parents, which was one of the reasons why he didn’t reach too far in his career and ended up taking the job of an assistant coach for measly wages.

The following day, the young girl came to visit Tsukasa’s club with her mother. Over there, the mother revealed that she didn’t favor her daughter learning ice skating due to an awful incident that her elder daughter faced when she pursued ice skating. She explained that she brought her daughter to the club in order to convince her not to go skating, as she was being stubborn. Tsukasa appreciated how the young girl, Inori, was brave enough to tell her mother about her dreams, so he decided to give her a chance, so he took her to the skating ring to test her skills.

Interestingly enough, Inori was able to perfectly perform all beginner skills without any difficulty, which had her mother and even Tsukasa shocked. At this point, Tsukasa was obviously getting really excited about seeing Inori’s potential, so he started teaching her slightly advanced techniques, which she wasn’t able to master. Despite how shocked Inori’s mother was at seeing her daughter perform well in the ring for the first time, she still refused to have her enrolled.

That moment was the breaking point for Tsukasa, as he went on to explain how Inori had massive amounts of talent and the correct approach to ice skating, so she would easily perform better than anyone who started skating at the age of five. He even went far enough to declare that he would bring Inori to such height that she would even contest in ice-skating national competitions. Inori’s mother, who was half impressed yet half shocked by Tsukasa’s extreme passion for the sport, decided to let her daughter enroll anyway, and the episode came to an end with Inori’s cute and satisfied smile.

3. Medalist Episode 2 Speculations

In episode 2 of Medalist, we would likely see Tsukasa coaching Inori on the basics of ice skating. While she may be talented in the sport, she still has far less experience in the skating rink, and since Tsukasa had promised her mother that he’d bring her to great heights, he is going to have to go the extra mile to turn a beginner into one of the best.

Since the first episode has only gone into Inori’s character introduction, we can expect to see more about Tsukasa, and the circumstances in which he got into ice skating. He did suggest that he started late because he was too scared to tell his parents, but no more information is available besides that.
