Marvel dropped a brand new trailer for Phase 4’s first movie, Black Widow, as it approaches its release this July. The film will look into Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, venturing on a dangerous journey to tackle enemies from her past while rediscovering her relationships from before becoming an Avenger.
The trailer opens with flashbacks of Natasha’s time with the Avengers, stating that there’s much to be known about her. Recounting on mistakes made in the past, Natasha’s storyline is recapped until her last moment in Avengers: Endgame, where she sacrifices herself for the Soul Stone.
Not only does it finally cast a spotlight on Natasha’s story, but the trailer also pays homage to the most talented assassin in the MCU and one of the founding members of the Avengers. However, Black Widow’s narrative goes a little more back in time.
The trailer’s highlight is definitely the flashbacks of Natasha’s childhood living with her sister Yelena as both grow a strong bond. However, they are separated as the KGB takes Natasha away to train her. Later, Yelena is put through the same training at 15.
Also featured are Alexei Shostakov, aka. The Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), who seemingly played parental roles in both girls’ lives. But the trailer also hinted that they had a hand in the breakup of their familial bond due to “orders.”
The one to take the cake away, though, is the Taskmaster, who was not teased as much in the previous trailer. Incited by none other than the Red Room’s overseer Dreykov, he is sent on a search to bring back Natasha. Marvel’s recent upload sees him in all his glory and features an epic-scale battle between him and Black Widow.
As the trailer comes to an end, Natasha claims, “I’m done running from my past,” and if that wasn’t enough, wait till the end credits drop the Avengers theme song in her legacy.
After years of fans demanding a standalone movie for Natasha, it is finally about to see the light of day with a big-screen debut. Delayed three times in the past year due to the COVID pandemic, Marvel’s Black Widow is scheduled to finally come out on July 9, 2021.
