Matt Damon To Return As Fake Loki For A Cameo In Thor: Love And Thunder

Matt Damon is returning to portray Fake Loki… or Foki (no? okay).

As rumors stand correct, Damon will have a short part in an ‘upgraded joke’ for the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.

The Good Will Hunting actor previously played the role in Thor: Ragnarok as an actor portraying the God of Mischief in a theatre production of TDW battle scene. (Actor Loki = Aoki!!! Still a no? fine)

The previously bleak Thor franchise took a light turn when Taika Waititi helmed the third installment, Thor: Ragnarok. One of the early scenes had Loki, disguised as Odin, enjoying a play celebrating his ‘heroic death’ in Asgard.

The play’s cast included Matt Damon as Loki, Luke Hemsworth as Thor, and Sam Neill as Odin.

Damon confirmed his return in a conversation with Jess Cagle on Sirius XM,

I don’t know if it’s secret or not though everybody knows. I went down there to shoot. I think they sussed out because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing.

We were kind of reprising a cameo that we, that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one. And we had a ball, and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit.

Set photos started the rumors of Waititi bringing back the joke for the fourth film. This time around, we might get a play based on the events of Thor: Ragnarok as set photos indicated Melissa McCarthy’s entry as Fake Hela.

Even though we’re getting Damon’s Loki, Hiddleston confirmed that he wouldn’t be making an appearance in the film. But there’s no reason to worry as the OG Loki will return for Season 2 of his Disney+ series (and hopefully with some more variants).

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
