Mass Effect Legendary Edition dropped across all platforms yesterday to generally positive reviews. The pack revives the original Mass Effect trilogy for current-gen consoles with updated graphics and brings a whole set of features like adjustable subtitles and a photo mode, to name a few. However, BioWare neglected to include an FOV slider which thankfully, already has a fan-made fix.
The fix is an effective Cheat Engine which is available as a free download on SteamLists; all you need to do is follow the instructions and the downloadable package, once correctly installed, will let you adjust the FOV in-game. However, the Cheat Engine will spam you with prompts for shady downloads, so be sure to decline them all.
As per the guide, the perfect value to set the FOV to is 0.01. Of course, you can calibrate it to your preference but 0.02 in itself is a little more than needed. Another thing to note about the Cheat Engine is that you have to put it in place each time you boot up the game. But since there is no other fix (particularly an official one) available at the moment, this will have to do. Hopefully, an official patch from BioWare will bring the much-needed slider to the game.
An FOV slider is a handy feature to include in a game as a low FOV value makes things appear like you’re viewing them through binoculars at all times which can lead to uncomfortable side-effects like disorientation, dizziness, or nausea. What’s more, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the second recent AAA title that has failed to include an FOV slider with the first being Resident Evil Village.
Fan involvement with Mass Effect Legendary Edition seems to have become a two-way street. Fans have brought fixes to the game a day after release while BioWare has employed fan-made mods as benchmarks for the trilogy’s graphical updates. The developers have also left many references to other Mass Effect titles for fans to find in the game, some of which were spotted last year itself.
