BioWare’s Mass Effect Legendary Edition recently launched to favorable reviews, but also came with a set of unfortunate bugs. In fact, one of these bugs even caused a complete crash on the Xbox Series X if you launched the game with wireless headphones plugged in. To remedy this issue and the rest of the bugs currently running rampant in the game, BioWare dropped Update 1.02 yesterday for all platforms.
Sized at anywhere between 7 GB to 18 GB depending on your set-up, the update not only brings bug fixes but also adds visual enhancements to all three games in the edition so that they run a little smoother. Here are the patch notes, as found on EA’s website:
General
- Fixed the main issue where the launcher would crash or become unresponsive on Xbox Series X when using a wireless headset
- Known issue: This can still happen if you enable/disable a headset in the launcher. A future fix will resolve this issue.
- Improved iris shaders for better interaction with light and ambient occlusion
- Minor calibrations, fixes, and stability improvements
- Mass Effect
Improved terrain textures
- Fixed an issue where kills for achievements/trophies weren’t tracking correctly
- Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2
- Resolved an issue where the character code would sometimes not display in the squad menu
- Improvements to pre-rendered cutscenes to reduce occasional artifacts
Mass Effect 2
- Improved lighting and shadows in some cinematics
- Minor visual, rendering, and VFX improvements on some levels
- Resolved minor text issues with achievements
Mass Effect 3
- Fixed an issue where kills for achievements/trophies weren’t tracking correctly
As you can see above, the Xbox-headset issue might crop up again if you enable/disable your headphones while the game is launching, but BioWare plans to drop another update to fix that.
Even after receiving a heavy-duty patch on launch day, the fact that several bugs still remained is quite disappointing, particularly for players on the Xbox Series X. But seeing that the games in the trilogy are anywhere between 9-14 years old, adapting them to new-gen graphics is bound to be a complex process that will bring its set of hiccups.
It would be good of EA and BioWare to announce a robust roadmap of patches in the near future so that Mass Effect fans know that the game is in good hands.
About Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
The first three original games of the franchise: Mass Effect(2007), Mass Effect 2(2010), and Mass Effect 3(2012), will be fused together. The outcome of this amalgamation will be known as Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. These classic games of the past will be given a modern touch.
To make this game a fit for the modern hardware, Mass Effect Legendary Edition will carry a plethora of enhancements. Expect to see a game with improved revamped dynamic shadows, volumetrics, textures, redesigned character models, depth-of-field, etc.
