Marvel’s Black Widow Praised by Viewers as Early Reactions Arrive

The first reactions for Marvel’s Black Widow are here, and they are definitely reassuring; if you had any doubts in the first place, that is. Scarlett Johansson’s standalone film has been long overdue, but with it finally set to release on July 9, the excitement for the MCU’s first Phase Four movie has been unreal.

Now to further add to that hype, the Twitterverse has unleashed the early reactions for Black Widow, and they do not disappoint. Several critics have taken to the online platform to share their opinions of the film, with the majority of them being positive.

Although in the main timeline, Natasha is already dead due to her sacrifice in Vormir, the upcoming film takes a look at events preceding those of Avengers: Infinity War, where Romanoff was alive. Thus Black Widow takes place after Captain America: Civil War which saw the titular character by herself following the conflict between Iron Man and Captain America regarding the Sokovia Accords.

The movie sees Natasha take a trip down memory lane to take care of unfinished business while reuniting with her Russian family consisting of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), and Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour). It also introduces Marvel villain Taskmaster, although the actor playing the character remains unknown as of yet.

Judging from the trailers, much of Black Widow is focused on the high-powered action sequences and plot building, but its main purpose is to wrap up Natasha’s story once and for all. Many fans were enraged about her tragic death in Endgame, which the movie seems to make up for considering the first reactions.

Johansson is, of course, in the midst of all the praise with her final performance as Romanoff being deemed outstanding. Pugh and Harbour have also gained some shoutouts for their respective portrayals, with many even theorizing Pugh’s Belova could become the next Black Widow.

Be that as it may, the Phase Four movie champions Natasha’s story and bids a final farewell to one of our old favorites.
