Since 20th Century Fox is now a Walt Disney property, movie fans are eagerly waiting for the official announcement of mutants being integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To be precise, X-Men, Marvel’s first family Fantastic Four and Deadpool are returning home to Marvel Studios.
It is an exciting development and phase four of the MCU, in the post endgame era promises to be just as epic as the last decade of Marvel. Don’t get too excited just yet though because we are unlikely to see the X-Men in the MCU for at least two or three years considering how many projects are lined-up for Marvel and Disney.
That doesn’t mean they won’t be brainstorming with the new characters and developments and hopefully we will hear snippets of progress over the next few months and years.
One massive rumoured change is said to concern Professor Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. According to Full Circle, they’re thinking about making either Magneto, Xavier or both characters, African American in the MCU. Writer of X-Men: First Class Zach Stentz has said that Italian-American actor Giancarlo Esposito would be a great choice to play Professor X in the MCU’s X-Men.
Magneto has of course already been played by Ian McKellan and Michael Fassbender respectively, while James McAvoy and the unforgettable Patrick Stewart have both done stellar jobs playing Professor X.
Development is still in the very early stage right now, and it may be something they are just thinking about. Implementing those thoughts will still take a while and confirmation on any of the current rumours are still a while off.
We have many years before these characters are live on the big screen again and one can only wait with bated breath.
