Obsessed with Shang-Chi to the point that you want to make fan art? Marvel’s comic book artist Marcus To shows you how!
This fun, interactive drawing lesson with To was hosted by Ryan Penagos and brought to us by Marvel Strike Force. Part of Marvel’s ongoing promotion for the movie, it was streamed live on YouTube, Twitch, Instagram and Facebook.
For the unacquainted, Marcus To is a Canadian comic book artist, currently working at Marvel. Wondering where you might have seen his art before? He rose to prominence for Red Robin, Huntress and Soulfire (the first two published by DC Comics, while the latter by Aspen Comics).
His first gig with Marvel started in 2007 with a fill-in for Black Panther #24-25. He went on to work on New Warriors, New Avengers, All New Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men Blue and Age of X-Man.
In the livestream, he proudly holds up the latest edition of Excalibur (2019-ongoing) which he is a major part of.
The lesson itself is ripe with step-by-step pointers on the artwork that To is attempting: Shang-Chi in a “ready to fight” action pose. This comes with insights into the industry, comic book tidbits and more.
As much as this is about Shang-Chi, it is also about Marvel Strike Force who has officially presented the video. This is a single and multiple role-playing game, initially developed by FoxNext, then acquired by Scopely (available on iOS and Android).
The game has a long and impressive list of playable heroes, villains and minions to choose from, of which Shang-Chi is its latest release.
The player comes with a good backstory, new events, rewards and bonuses in the game.
We hear you loud and clear Marvel: Let’s go gaga over Shang-Chi in theatres, in Strike Force and with some really cool fan art!
