Moon Knight Merch Art Is Heavily Influenced by His Egyptian Origins

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight is here to change the MCU as the dark new series awaits its March debut on Disney+.

Fresh off after the release of its first trailer a few days ago, Marvel dropped new merch featuring the series’ official promo art, and it hints at the superhero’s Egyptian connection.

Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector has a dissociative identity disorder as he shares his body with Steven Grant. And as the synopsis calls it, he has to navigate his complex identities “while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”

Evidently, Moon Knight’s powers and origins are rooted deeply into Egyptian mythology, and the art designs on the merch reflect its importance in the show.

The first artwork is a close-up of Moon Knight’s head surrounded by Egyptian hieroglyphs with a scarab holding a crescent moon under it. The scarab beetle is an important detail here as it was a symbol of immortality, resurrection, transformation, and protection used in funerary art in ancient Egypt.

Whereas the second artwork features Moon Knight’s full costume. As the superhero poses with his arms out, the golden sand-like background has traces/etches of two crescent moons. His cape also has wing-like feathers spread out, forming a crescent moon upside-down.

This hints at his suit having more supernatural abilities. And if the number of crescent moons didn’t make it obvious, the Egyptian moon good, Khonshu’s presence will surely be strong in the series.

Alongside Isaac, the series stars Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy. Moon Knight also marks one of Gaspard Ulliel’s final projects, which the late actor worked on before his untimely passing earlier last month.

Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ on March 30, 2022.
