Shazam! Fury of the Gods may be starting filming soon, but Mark Strong’s Dr. Sivana won’t be in front of the cameras.
Despite the first movie’s post-credits scene appearing to set up a future for Dr. Sivana, Mark Strong confirms he will not be a part of Fury of the Gods.
Over the past few months, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! sequel has been really coming together following the electric, big-screen debut of the comic book character in 2019.
Shazam! 2, officially titled Fury of the Gods, will see the return of Billy (played by both Angel and Zachary Levi) and his foster siblings as they embark on a new adventure, though the specifics of what that entails remain a secret.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods will also introduce new villains. They include Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and it’s possible they could be joined by some others, but it is confirmed that Dr. Sivana is not one of them.
In an interview with Den of Geek, Mark Strong confirmed his absence in the movie, which is currently filming. Strong explained why he isn’t in the sequel.
“I literally spoke to the producer last night, because I saw that Zach Levi tweeted that they’re about to start shooting in Atlanta. Dr. Sivana isn’t in Shazam! 2. What’s happened is, I think Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu and perhaps someone else—they’ve got some female villains in. And to be honest with you, I’m very happy to take a backseat to some female villains and let them have a go, because judging by the work that Emma Thompson and Emma Stone have done in Cruella, it’s about time.”

As for whether he thinks Sivana will come back if there’s a Shazam! 3, Strong was brief, but acknowledged that mid-credits scene from the first film:
“Who knows? He’s still got unfinished business with Mister Mind.”

Plot details of Shazam! Fury of the Gods are a complete secret for now.
Although we know that in addition to Levi, Mirren, and Liu, the cast includes returning members Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Marta Milans, and Faithe Herman, along with newcomer Rachel Zegler in an undisclosed role.
Fans who were excited to see what Dr. Sivana and Mister Mind would be have been up to in the sequel might be disappointed by this news. But we really can’t wait to see Levi go toe-to-toe with Mirren and Liu!
