Lazarus is an original sci-fi anime series that is set in 2052. neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug called Hapuna. However, this drug doesn’t cure all diseases but is, in fact, a slow poison.
With time-ticking and death approaching, a special task force of five agents is gathered worldwide to save humanity. Doesn’t Lazarus sound like the plot of every action movie we know? However, simple action pieces are rare in the anime world. With this anime, we might finally get pure action.
Adult Swim announced it is producing a new original anime series titled “Lazarus” for Toonami. Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop will be directing every episode with MAPPA.
Chad Stahelski, the director and stuntman of John Wick, is designing the action sequences for the science-fiction action anime. John Wick is one of the biggest movies in the action world, and with its director working with this anime, we can expect nothing short of perfection.
MAPPA also has had incredible success with its projects like Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen. They are producing anime of top quality, and with them handling the project, the animation is sure to be impressive.
Additionally, Shinichiro Watanabe is working on this anime. He is a well-known director who has produced masterpieces like Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy.
The anime will also feature a score by jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington. So, we can expect a “Samurai Champloo” vibe form this anime but with more action.
The anime has a generic but solid plot, an attractive setting, and, most importantly, great action. With the most prominent names in the industry working on this project, it will be huge and worth looking out for.
