Shueisha launched the Manga Plus web platform and smartphone app on January 8, 2019, to meet the demand of the English-speaking market.
Subsequently, seeing the demand from other languages such as Spanish, Indonesian, and many others, the service started including many different languages. And the most recent one to join the list is none other than the top consumer of manga and anime, i.e., French.
Manga Plus, the premier place for manga published by the Shueisha, has officially started its service in French with 8 launch titles.
The French launch titles include:
- Kaiju No.8
- One Piece
- My Hero Academia
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Black Clover
- Mashle
- Mission: Yozakura Family
- Undead Unlock
Though France is the largest manga-consuming country, the service had to onboard many local publishers with fragmented licenses, which caused the 2-year delay.
In Japan, enjoying manga is relatively easy. Consumers can find magazines such as Shonen Jump at every retailer for modest prices and constantly either weekly or monthly. The problem arises for fans living outside of Japan as they have to wait for the official distributor or resort to privacy and fansubs.
With the Manga Plus service, users can access the first three and the three most recent chapters of all the manga titles published by Shueisha for free and legally. So avid manga readers can support their favorite mangaka without relying on any illegal sources.
For France, where manga and anime are just as rampant as in Japan, Manga Plus represents a new way to consume manga for free, something sure to excite many French manga readers.
