Video game screen adaptations have always been a risky undertaking for filmmakers and showrunners. Steven Kane and Kyle Killen’s Halo on Paramount+ has also made waves in introducing new sides of the game characters but going against said game’s rules.
The line between inspiration and remaining true to said originals is fragile. But despite that, Paramount+ military sci-fi series Halo was renewed for Season 2 in March 2022.
With the commencement of production, a new update has shaken fans with the return of the infamous character Makee.
The series, first debuting on the streaming service in March 2022, generated mixed reviews from game fans and critics, who observed that the series often deviated from the original source material.
The only redeeming qualities of the show were the actor’s performances and the choreography and execution of the action scenes.
The show’s finale saw the death of the fan-hated character Makee, who was shot dead by Kai, and fans thought that would be her end.
But the official press release by Paramount+ clearly stated Charlie Murphy’s return in Season 2, meaning her character will make a comeback despite being killed off last season.
Fans might not be too happy as Makee was key to the series’ protagonist losing much of the principles he possessed in the game. But maybe, Makee’s return could also pose a redeeming chance for the show to rise in the eyes of gaming fans and non-gaming fans alike.
The Season 1 finale ended with Cortana taking over John’s body to achieve his mission while saving his team, a classic Master Chief move, as appeased gamer fans would agree.
Thus, it could mean that Makee may only be alive in the memories of Master Chief, explaining Murphy’s addition to the Season 2 cast list.
But, let’s not forget, The Covenant had kept Makee alive all this time, and her usefulness may be necessary for them to get their relic back from Spartan-117.
Maybe they will revive her to put her in John’s way again, even if her cover was blown, and pose her as a brainwashed enemy this time.
With filming only beginning recently, confirmation of these speculations is far off. But for now, fans can only hope the show revives itself as a video game adaptation in the eyes of fans.
