Just when we thought we had enough anime movies to watch out for this year, Netflix decided to announce the next big thing in Make My Day.
Although anime exclusive streaming services do their job, no platform made anime accessible like Netflix. With its popularity among the common masses, the streaming service played a key role in making anime mainstream.
Along with its originals like Beastars and Japan Sinks, Netflix has also dabbled into the movie side of things by licensing Ghibli movies and new movies like The Silent Voice. But now they have decided to venture into original production.
Netflix has announced a new anime film, “Make My Day” on their Netflix Geeked week Livestream.
The film is based on an original story by Yasuo Ohtagaki( Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt). They also revealed a visual for the upcoming movie.
The visual shows an icy town with two large industrial mine holes and an X wing-like spaceship. The overall setting of the visual is very reminiscent of Hoth from Star Wars.
Studio 5Inc is in charge of character design and animation for the movie. Makoto Honda was also announced as the director.
The movie is set on a cold icy planet where mysterious creatures from the underground have started attacking citizens on the surface.
Netflix had previously announced its intent to team up with anime studios in order to produce more original content, It looks like that union is finally paying off.
While some of the Netflix originals were a miss, they have been successful every time they have dabbled in the horror/mystery genre. It seems like Make My Day will not be an exception either.
