As Riko’s search for her mother continues, something tells me that it will only get more painful for the Made in Abyss fanbase. Even with Reg’s undefeated Incinerator, I can only hope how long the crew can hold on as they go deeper into the layers.
The anime’s last season made it very clear that having cute characters doesn’t mean that it will be a happy story. They also announced a second season recently that will start with Riko and her crew scouting the sixth layer and revealed a brand new trailer for the same.
Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun unveiled a second promotional video featuring the lead trio of Riko, Reg, and Nanachi entering the sixth layer of the abyss. The season is scheduled for a July 2022 premiere.
The thrilling part about the video was not the trio meeting Faputa, but Reg being someone that the Princess of the Narehate recognized. She tackles him to the ground and is taken aback when Reg doesn’t identify the place they’re at.
As we all know, Reg has no memory of his time in the abyss before meeting Riko. The teaser confirms that Reg comes from a deeper pit level and has been to the sixth too.
Moreover, the promo video also teases the anime’s opening theme called ‘Katachi’ by Riko Azuna and ending theme ‘Endless Embrace’ by MYTH&ROID.

With all the brutality inflicted upon a bunch of 10-year-olds, we are convinced that this show is not for the faint-hearted. But at the same time, the fans can’t help but get excited about it.
I can’t wait for all the new revelations and challenges that await Riko and her friends in the upcoming season.
About Made In Abyss
An orphaned girl named Riko lives in the Belchero Orphanage in the town of Orth.
The town surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the Earth, which is commonly called the Abyss.
The Abyss harbours artefacts and remnants of a civilization long gone, and is, therefore, the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descents into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find.
Some legendary Cave Raiders earn the title of White Whistle, one of them being Riko’s mother, Lyza.
Riko’s longing in life is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a White Whistle. One day she discovers a robot resembling a human boy in the Abyss and names him Reg.
Riko and her friends sneak Reg into Belchero and quickly welcome him into their close-knit group.
Sometime later, a balloon reaches the surface from the depths of the Abyss containing pages of discoveries made by Lyza, as well as a message for Riko stating she is waiting at the bottom of the Abyss.
Riko, determined to find her mother, bids farewell to her friends and departs to the Abyss with Reg as her companion.
