Macaulay Culkin to Navigate His 40s With a Midlife Crisis Travel Show

Macaulay Culkin is old. The Home Alone kid is in his 40s, so naturally, he has outgrown his hobby of troubling bad guys, and he’s moved onto travel documentaries with a dash of mid-life crisis.

The actor is now teaming up with Lightbox to work on a documentary series about “Macaulay Culkin’s Midlife Crisis.”

The shows’ ideation can be traced back to when Culkin, in a now-famous tweet, hit people with a reality check when he reminded everyone that the little kid from Home Alone is all grown up now, officially entering his fifth decade of living.

According to Deadline, this tweet will be the starting point for the show as the audience will see the actor embark on a “wild and intrepid journey to discover what hitting the big four-zero really means.”

Culkin won’t shy away; the series will get serious and real as he’ll be pondering on important questions that we often wonder about when introspecting our own idea of ‘getting older.’

“How should we embrace getting older in a society obsessed by youth? What is midlife success and how do we measure it? How do we ensure unbridled passion doesn’t become a relic of our youth?”

The documentary show will be executive produced by Lightbox co-founders Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn with Emily Gerson Saines.

While talking about Culkin and the project, Jonathan and Simon Chinn said in a statement,

Mack remains as iconic and as loved as ever—a social media sensation, internet entrepreneur, and hard-working member of his pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band. Despite his legendary status, like the rest of us, he’s having to confront what it means to be a normal middle-aged guy, with a wife and a new kid who’s soon going to be the same age he was when he became a massive global superstar. We are thrilled to be working through our mid-life crises with him on this exciting project.

To this, Culkin replied jokingly,

Wow, Lightbox. Thanks for reminding me I’m in my 40s. Well, rather than make a big deal about it, I figure we should just make a show about it. Makes sense.

Lightbox is the production company behind projects like Tina, The Princess, and The Curse of the Chippendales, among others.
