Lupin III and Cat’s Eye are having a crossover, and fans of these vintage anime are going insane over it.
Cat’s Eye fans are especially over the moon because they haven’t gotten a new anime from the franchise since 1985. The crossover ONA is no less than a blessing for these starved ones.
The good thing is that fans of the series won’t have to do a treasure hunt to find the anime. Amazon Prime Video has revealed it will exclusively stream the ‘Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye’ ONA worldwide on its platform.
The new trailer confirms the anime’s debut on January 27, 2023, and previews the theme songs.
Anri is coming back to perform a new version of the 1983 ‘Cat’s Eye’ anime’s theme song, and it is titled ‘Cat’s Eye 2023.’ The opening theme song is called ‘THEME FROM LUPIN vs. CAT’S EYE,’ performed by fox capture plan.
This project is special as it commemorates Lupin III’s 50th anniversary and Cat’s Eye franchise’s 40th. The story is confirmed to be set during Cat’s Eye anime’s original timeline in the 1980s, so be ready for some sick vintage aesthetics.
In addition, Amazon has also revealed a new key visual featuring the protagonists of both series.

It was previously announced that Keiko Toda and Kanichi Kurita would return to play their roles as Hitomi Kisugi and Lupin III. Others are reprising their roles from the original series, except for Rica Fukami and Mugihito, replacing the late Toshiko Fujita and Tamio Ohki, respectively.
Previously it wasn’t clear if the anime would be a series, film, or OVA, but Amazon has confirmed it to be an ONA. That means it will be a completely new story.
The trailer also suggests that the ONA will be a thrilling cel-shaded CG anime, so let’s see how it turns out.
About Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye
Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye is an upcoming original crossover anime film by Amazon Prime Video and TMS. It features a collab between the popular retro crime anime Cat’s Eye and Lupin the Third.
The movie’s plot will also be based on three paintings left behind by Hitomi’s father. Hitomi, along with her sisters Rui and Ai, will engage in a fierce battle of wits and trickery with Lupin to acquire those paintings.
