Episode 23 of Lupin III, part 6, titled “The Memories of a Beloved Witch,” is the latest installment of the anime.
Tomoe finally steps out from the shadows, revealing Lupin’s real past. We’re shown that as a child, Lupin was brainwashed by his grandfather into believing that his mother was nothing more than his teacher.
Tomoe had planned to take Lupin away from his corrupt family and start a new life, but he refused to leave with her, thinking that she wasn’t his mother.
After this heart-breaking incident, Tomoe faked her death and set up an elaborate plan to remind Lupin about his past and about the fact that she was his mother.
This plan involved multiple women who came across Lupin and reminded him about a verse from a long-lost poem. When the final verse was finally spoken to him, Lupin remembered everything and turned back to his mother.
This, however, doesn’t sit well with Mattea, who was one of Tomoe’s students. She refuses to believe that her entire life was focused on bringing Lupin back to his mother. Blinded by rage, will Mattea really kill Tomoe? We’ll find out in the next episode.
Episode 24 Speculation
The next episode will be the finale of this season. Every episode had a hidden clue that led us towards Lupin’s past and hinted towards his mother, Tomoe’s whereabouts.
After Lupin listens to the final verse of a poem his mother told him to remember, he goes into a trance-like state and leaves everything behind to visit Tomoe.
Despite their best attempts, Fujiko, Jigen, and Goemon are unable to stop her, but they’re not going to give up their partner in crime this easily.
Also, Lupin’s entire life has revolved around him being a world-class thief, so I think that it won’t be possible for him to leave that life behind.
Tomoe’s conflict with Mattea also needs to be resolved since the latter cannot accept that her whole life had been manipulated by someone who didn’t truly care for her.
It’s a complicated situation, but I’m sure Lupin’s friends, as well as his intelligence, will not fail him.

Episode 23 Recap
Lupin’s behavior suddenly changes after Zenigata makes him hear a message from Ariana. The words “eternal love” seem to affect him, and Lupin enters a trance-like hypnotic state.
He pushes away his friends, declaring that he must go to his mother. Mattea also rushes to his aid and helps Lupin fight off Jigen, Goemon, and Zenigata.
The three men are left stranded in snow as Lupin escapes using their bus, and Mattea follows him on her motorbike. After his escape, Jigen and Goemon visit a professor to ask him about Lupin’s mother, Tomoe, while Zenigata goes to a holding cell where one of Tomoe’s students resides.
They eventually figure out that Lupin is on his way to a village named Mahiko, located in Japan. We cut to Lupin confronting Fujiko about leaving her.
She tries to make him stay by saying that she’s the only woman allowed to claim him. She asks him whether all their years together were fake, but Lupin refuses to answer and leaves her in the rain.
Jigen and Goemon then meet up with Fujiko and decide to follow Lupin and bring him back to his senses. Meanwhile, Lupin has flashbacks of his mother reciting a poem to him.
She tells him that they’ll always be together as long as he remembers the poem. On the other hand, Zenigata also deciphers Tomoe’s location and promptly leaves for Japan.
Lupin eventually reaches Tomoe, and we finally see her for the first time. Tomoe is an older lady who still wears her signature lavender kimono. She is delighted to see Lupin, and Lupin, too, seems happy to reunite with his mother.
He asks him how she faked her death, and Tomoe tells him that she simply used a replacement for herself.
After finding the documentation to prove that Lupin is her biological son, she wanted to run away with him but couldn’t because he didn’t think of her as his mother. Tomoe explains how she has been waiting for him for all these years.
Their happiness is cut short as Mattea appears behind Lupin and shoots him. He falls down from the balcony, and Mattea angrily demands an explanation from Tomoe.
Tomoe then reveals that all her students, including her, were a part of a grand scheme to make Lupin remember about his mother.
Frustrated that her life had been dedicated to serving someone who didn’t even care about her, Mattea prepares to kill Tomoe. Lupin interrupts her, showing that the gunshot had no effect on him.
