Episode 12 Recap
Sherlock, Lily, Lupin, and Zenigata manage to make it out alive after the explosion. They realize that the Black Drawing Room was merely a setup to lure them in. Sherlock makes his way to the Scotland Yard station and examines Faulkner’s belongings.
He spots a cheap ring that belonged to an extravagant Faulkner and deduces that the ring must be the key to uncovering the Raven’s treasure. A man secretly watches Sherlock and Lestrade, discovering the true purpose of the ring.
The man steals the ring and takes it to unlock a secret tunnel that supposedly contains the treasure. He is then caught by Sherlock, Lily, and Lestrade, and Sherlock recognizes him as Eliot. A fight ensues where Sherlock and Lestrade chase Eliot but just as he’s about to escape, Lupin makes an appearance and shoots him.
Lupin tells Lily that Eliot was the one who killed John Watson, her father, before facing Sherlock. The two then engage in a fight where they’re about to shoot each other. Just then, Lily remembers that she saw Lestrade’s face when her father died, confirming that it was him and not Eliot who killed John.
They all stop fighting and corner the Scotland Yard officer. Lestrade realizes that all of this was a ruse to set him up. Sherlock confirms his belief by explaining that he found out that Lestrade is the killer very early on.
Having no other option, Lestrade reveals two bombs and tells them that he plans to kill everyone and obtain the treasure for himself. Lupin interrupts him and tells everybody that the Raven’s treasure is nothing but a collection of bombs made during the Second World War. He explains that they are now useless, frustrating Lestrade even more.
Lestrade makes a run for it and climbs on the roof with both the bombs in his hands. He utters his final words to Sherlock, asking him to tell Lily that he apologizes for murdering her father and jumps off into the Thames River. The bombs detonate in the water, implying that Lestrade is now dead.
Lupin bids goodbye to Sherlock and finally tells him that John told him to watch over Sherlock and Lily. He also says that it is now Sherlock’s responsibility to take care of Lily.
Sherlock smiles at him and returns to taking more serious cases with Lily as his assistant. He calls her “Watson” for the first time, making her giggle with excitement.
Meanwhile, Lupin stumbles upon James Moriarty, a poor Baker Street boy. Moriarty warns Lupin and tells him to not get in his way, and Lupin assures him that he has had enough of London.
