In episode 9 of Lupin III Part 6 titled, “The Jet-Black Diamond,” we saw Lupin and the team try to steal the Jet-Black Diamond.
It turns out that the diamond was actually black pepper which was a rare commodity at a time and was hence nicknamed the Jet-Black Pepper.
Even though there wasn’t an actual heist in this episode, it was still fun to follow Fujiko venturing out on her own to find the treasure.
When it was revealed that Lupin and others put in so much of their time and effort for nothing, it didn’t feel tragic and was rather heart-warming.
What elaborate heist will Lupin plan next? We’ll find out in the next episode.
Episode 10 Speculation
In the next episode, we will meet a very peculiar gentleman who approaches Fujiko with a job. He tells her a fascinating tale about a certain fossil.
Why is the fossil so important, and why did he choose Fujiko for the job? Will Lupin try to interfere and sneak in his tricks for a profit?

Episode 9 Recap
The episode begins with a woman entering a secret location with another older woman in a wheelchair. Another man follows them and reveals a card with a message to Lupin. The message is that someone named Cherry will guide him to the Jet-Black Diamond.
We then see that the entrance was to the London underground auction, filled with many high-profile guests from all over the world.
The special item to be auctioned off is the treasure of the great pirate, Zeke Barbatos. Over a century ago, Zeke ravaged the seas of the Atlantic and became known as the pirate king.
He amassed an incredible fortune by targeting ships headed for Europe carrying gemstones excavated in Brazil. A mutiny led to his eventual capture, and he spent his last years awaiting execution in a Brazilian prison.
Thanks to the foundation’s most accomplished treasure hunter, Cherry, they are able to get their hands on Zeke’s treasure. The gems found in his treasure are auctioned off until a final gem remains. The gem is Venus Ruby, an exquisite piece supposedly paired with the Jet-Black Diamond.
The old woman and her granddaughter leave with a rare kokeshi doll as the auction ends. The man seen at the beginning of the episodes asks them if he could take a look at the doll and the woman agrees on the condition that he’ll let her examine his doll.
As the two exchange their dolls, it is revealed that the man is Lupin in disguise. The police have found him again and intend to capture him, but they fail once again. Lupin opens up the kokeshi doll to reveal half of the treasure map to the Jet-Black Diamond.
The other half is preserved in the other kokeshi doll. As he escapes the building, he reunites with the old woman and switches back the dolls when she tells him that it was a gift from her older sister.
When Lupin sticks both the pieces of the map, Fujiko steals it, intending to keep the Jet-Black Diamond for herself. She meets up with the old woman and her granddaughter again and plants a secret microphone on her to spy on them.
We find out that the woman’s older sister was a lover of Zeke, who gave her the kokeshi dolls with the map to the Jet-Black Diamond. Fujiko and the other ladies stumble upon each other as they look for the location.
Upon finding the place, they find no treasure, and the old woman then reveals that the Jet-Black Diamond is black pepper that bought prosperity to the land.
As Fujiko escapes from the police once again, she admires the moonlit night even though she couldn’t acquire any gems.
