One Piece released its 974th chapter, titled “Onward to Onigashima,” on March 15. The chapter marks the end of the Kozuki Oden flashback, which started at the end of chapter 959.
Luffy and 4200 others went missing the night before the battle of Onigashima, and the reason for their disappearance has not been touched upon. However, with the storyline jumping back into the present, after a shocking reveal in chapter 974, Luffy returns to the action scene along with Law and Kidd in one of his signature epic entrances.
After the meetup location for Wano’s rebel forces was leaked, Lord Yasuie used his quick thinking and sacrificed his life to send a coded message during his execution. The men, the weapons, and the ships were ready to set sail at dawn to attack Onigashima.
However, in a shocking turn of events, none of the 4200 members of the revolution showed up, leaving the remainder of the Akazaya Nine to their own devices.
The Kozuki Oden flashback left this plot point at a cliffhanger. It continued from chapter 959 to chapter 974, marking the longest continuous period in which Luffy hadn’t made an appearance in the manga.
As the Akazaya Nine were the only ones present, they attempted to sail to Onigashima in their desperation to cut off Kaido’s head. However, they crossed paths with three humongous ships belonging to Kaido.
These ships were sent by Orochi to dispose of the remainder of Oden’s vassals, putting an end to the rebellion. However, Luffy, Law, and Kidd appeared out of the sea in their ships to protect the vassals in a surprising turn of events.
The fight has begun! Onward to Onigashima!
