The much-awaited Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 is out on Netflix after season 5 Part 1 ended with a thrilling cliff-hanger. Here’s everything that went down in the premiere episode, labeled as Episode 9 due to 5B being a continuation of Season 5.
Lucifer is based on the DC Comics character from The Sandman of the same name. The series follows Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil himself, who abandons Hell for Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub named ‘LUX’ and becomes a consultant to the LAPD.
Season 5B dropped on Netflix on Friday, 28th May 2021. It continues right where the first part left off and consists of 8 episodes. This makes for a total of 16 episodes across season 5 as a whole.
The synopsis for 5B released by Netflix teases that ‘God himself comes to Earth. Secrets will be revealed, heroic sacrifices will be made, and the world will never be the same.’
All seasons of Lucifer are available to watch on Netflix.
What Happened In The Premiere Episode
Titled Family Dinner, the first episode of Season 5 Part 2, has a lot of family drama that seems a little too human, considering it’s a family of celestials.
The episode begins at the exact moment where part 1 left off. Amenadiel froze time, and God came down to Earth to stop his sons from fighting and asks them to make up. Lucifer storms out in anger, saying that’s never going to happen.
God notices Charlie, Amenadiel’s son, and here it is revealed that Charlie is a mortal as he is frozen too (only celestial beings can move around when Amenadiel slows down/freezes time). This is later confirmed when Amenadiel asks God to make him a mortal instead and give his powers to Charlie. God tells him that fatherhood is never that easy and denies his request.
A similar thing happens when Mazikeen asks God to give her a soul. God tells her that she is perfect just the way she is. This leads to Mazikeen revealing her demon face and telling God that he ‘messed up’ when he was creating demons.
This episode acts as a recap for Season 5 Part 1. Throughout the episode, we see the characters talking about the situations they were in when the previous part ended. Ella is still heartbroken and trying to get over her serial killer ex, Pete. Whereas Dan is coming to terms with the fact that Lucifer is the devil.
God calls for an intimate family dinner with his three sons and asks Linda to join as well, who is baffled to meet Him, understandably. Shortly into the dinner, an argument emerges between Lucifer and Michael, which ultimately leads to Lucifer blaming God for the way they all turned out.
Linda, being a therapist, analyses the situation as a typical family conflict and says that Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Michael just crave God’s fatherly love that they never got. As usual, Lucifer projects his issues onto the case and has a whole argument about how if all the apples are rotten, maybe it’s not the apples but the tree that’s bad.
This leads to the episode ending with Lucifer telling Chloe that he’s incapable of love because he’s just like his father. Chloe is heartbroken when Lucifer tells her that he’ll never be able to say those three words (I love you) to her as it would be a lie. And Lucifer never lies.
God banishes Michael from Earth and says that he’d like to stay on Earth for a while. Michael meets Mazikeen and tells her that he’s far from done. This sets a lot of things up as God might finally realize that he could’ve been a better parent. Michael might possibly plan a rebellion of his own as he’s no longer in God’s favor. Maybe we might see Lucifer being God and Michael ending up in his own kingdom of Hell.
