It’s finally official! It was suspected all along that Lucifer’s season 5 finale was tweaked after Netflix announced the sixth season, and it’s true!
For a long time, Lucifans believed that season five was going to be the series finale. The decision for a sixth installment was at the last minute and even those behind the hit Netflix series had no idea while filming season 5.
It is safe to say that Netflix surprised both fans and its creative team by announcing an additional season of devilish antics from the satanic detective, played by British hunk Tom Ellis.
With news of further installments, changes were made to keep the show going into season 6.
In fact, it was not until the second last episode that the Lucifer crew knew their beloved show was not going to end anytime soon.
Speaking to Metro, Detective Douche actor Kevin Alejandro said:
“All of us went into it, and continued throughout the journey, up until the episode before the last one, thinking this was our series finale. That this [season five] was the show finale.”

Admitting that they were “thrown for a loop” by the surprising news, the show’s writers were reportedly quite swift in amending the storyline of the episode.
He revealed that they
“had to make some tweaks to our season finale. I didn’t think they could. I think they didn’t think they could do it, but lo and behold, they figured out a really cool way to excel through season six.”

The first half of Lucifer’s fifth season has already been released with the second half due to drop on Netflix later this year. British hunk and Lucifer lead Tom Ellis has also teased the upcoming musical episode when speaking to Collider.
“Well, you’re basically just asking me about my two favorite episodes of Lucifer. Ildy [Modrovich], one half of our showrunning team, has wanted to do a musical episode for a long time. It was Season 5, [which was going to be] our final season, so we definitely needed to try to do that.”

But the creative minds behind Lucifer also wanted to ensure the whole musical wasn’t just a gimmick but had a rationale behind it. It seems they finally found one.
“And the beauty of it was that we found the perfect reason for it…(we) made it service the episode, in terms of where the music comes from,”
Tom Ellis
