Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained

In Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 5, we witnessed Galadriel being taken prisoner by Adar and brought to Eregion. Meanwhile, the Stranger discovered that confronting Sauron and perhaps achieving his demise was his ultimate destiny.

Sauron persuaded Celebrimbor to forge nine more rings for Men in the interim as part of his sinister scheme. As the episode progressed, Gil-galad began to doubt himself and was plagued by visions that made him reflect on his journey.

War was the only thought on the minds of Adar’s army as they advanced toward Eregion. The Ring’s evil influence caused King Durin’s behavior to become more erratic, and back in Numenor, Elendil experienced a terrible loss that left him inconsolable and in tears.

Disa also came across a sinister and menacing entity that seemed to be trying to end everything deep within Khazad-dum.

1. What happened to Valandil in LOTR: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 5?

A terrible and shocking event occurred in Numenor when Valandil died. At a pilgrimage site, Kemen, the son of Pharazon, was furious and had been looking for affirmation and evidence of his value since the beginning. His frustrations eventually got the better of him, and he attacked Valandil and Elendil.

Unable to resist, Valandil attacked Kemen and came dangerously close to putting a sword to his neck. He even broke Kemen! However, he had no choice but to lower his weapon as Elendil intervened and asked him to stand down. To Kemen’s advantage, though, Valandil was about to be killed when he stabbed him in the back with Kemen’s sword.

Things in Numenor grew worse when Kemen painted Valandil as the rebel. Valandil’s death demonstrates how Numenor has become tense and divided due to Pharazon’s rule, which has brought darkness and violence.

In the first part of the second season of The Rings of Power, episode 4, Galadriel and Elrond were seen traveling to Eregion to meet Celebrimbor. However, they noticed an orc army moving toward Eregion as they travelled.

Galadriel decided to face the orc army after giving Elrond the rings. She defeated the orcs after engaging in a courageous battle. Adar appeared right when the orcs were at their lowest point.

The fifth episode reveals that Adar has captured Galadriel. Galadriel is not in danger from Adar, as disclosed in the episode’s last moments. He offers her something instead: to team up to battle a common foe.

3. In The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 5, will Celebrimbor fall into Sauron’s trap again?

Celebrimbor is now caught between shedding tears of guilt and realizing Sauron’s tricks. It’s a trap, even though Sauron seems sincere in offering to assist him in forging the rings, and I’m surprised Celebrimbor hasn’t realized that yet. His encounter with Durin IV had confirmed his suspicions regarding the corrupting power of the rings earlier in the episode.

He will aid in destroying Middle-earth if he caves into Sauron’s scheme. However, he could make poor decisions due to his guilt and desire to right the wrongs, which could send Middle-Earth down a dangerous path of self-destruction.

4. Will King Durin be able to escape the Ring’s hold?

King Durin’s obsession with the ring’s power is seriously harming Middle-earth and Khazad-dum. Disa’s finding of a dark presence—likely a Balrog—also raises the possibility of dire consequences stemming from Durin’s deeds. King Durin is being controlled and corrupted by the ring’s influence, leading him to disobey his son’s advice and go down a hazardous path.

The very building blocks of Khazad-dum might be in jeopardy if he continues to play with forces he cannot control. The choices King Durin makes will significantly impact the plot since they will determine the fate of the Dwarves and the future of Middle-earth.

5. What is the situation at Numenor?

Pharâzon has taken control of Númenor after the events of episode 3. After being crowned king, he takes to ruling with an iron grip. Kemen, his son, obeys his orders and confronts Valandil and Elendil to challenge their authority.

Kemen breaks up a Faithful ritual that honors the people who have died in the Southlands. He picks a fight with Valandil and Elendil during the ritual. Valandil gives him a brutal beating but doesn’t kill him.

But Kemen slashes Valandil with a sword as he turns to face him, instantly killing him. After falsely accusing Elendil of instigating the fight, he orders his arrest. In The Rings of Power season 2, it is evident that Pharâzon and Kemen have evil intentions.
