Loki Season Premiere Review: A Mind-Blowing Madness Of Mischiefs

Loki’s much-awaited season premiere released on Disney+ Hotstar, and I’m in love with every frame of it. It’s writing such as these that makes you want the platform to release all episodes together. Marvel just doesn’t cease to surprise us with its story-telling.

1. Quick Review

Loki

Air Date: June 9, 2021 Status: Finished Studio: Marvel Studios No. of Seasons: 2 No. of Episodes: 12
Watch Loki on:

This continuation of this mischievous character of Marvel, Loki, is both exciting and insightful. The writing and the performances balance the premise’s serious tonality with humor perfectly and set up the plotline for the entire season.

2. Is It Worth Watching?

Yes! It is an absolute delight to have Tom Hiddleston as Loki back on the screen. The show reveals a new facet of the Marvel Universe and almost instantly sucks into the plot and its characters.

Watch the show out right now! Actually, do finish reading this and then check it out. *Acting sheepishly*

3. Plot

The series takes us back to Endgame: 2012, Stark Tower, where the Avengers went to undo what Thanos did. If you remember correctly, Iron Man loses the Tesseract (thanks to Hulk!), and Loki disappears with it.

What follows is the introduction of The Time-keepers and the Time Variance Authority. According to them, Loki wasn’t supposed to escape. But since he did, he would face trial before the TVA (Time Variance Authority; don’t worry, you’ll get used to the name).

Tom Hiddleston as Loki

Now, I don’t want to give you any spoilers, so I’ll stop here. This episode sets the plotline for the remaining episodes and ends with a cliffhanger that, dare I say, was a bit predictable. Nevertheless, it’d still keep you waiting for an explanation.

If you find yourself contemplating multiple theories across universes and timelines, you’re not the only one!

I. Cast And Characters

The show has an ensemble of characters, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Owen Wilson as Agent Mobius in the lead. Their performances are just perfect for their roles.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki, goes through a range of emotions right from arrogance to annoyance, frustration, denial, sadness, and finally surprise. I know, he did all this in just 50 minutes, and he’s not the only one left dumbfounded at the end of the episode.

Owen Wilson, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air. His character Agent Mobius has this sense of breezy aura which can also be quite firm and authoritative but chooses not to. Instead, he builds a bond with Loki, and their camaraderie is just one of the million things I look forward to in the next episode.

4. Final Thoughts And Grade

The season premiere offers an introspective side to the titular character, Loki. The writing, though refreshing, is intriguing and promises a great season.

Honestly, if I praise the show anymore, you’d think this is a paid review. Jokes apart, I can’t wait for the next one, and I don’t think you should wait anymore to watch the premiere if you haven’t yet.

5. About Loki

Loki is an American TV series created by Michael Waldron for Disney+ and Marvel. It is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with events of the series taking place after Avengers: Endgame.

Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki along side new faces like Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, Eugene Cordero and Erika Coleman.

After stealing the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, Loki is apprehended by the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA) and their Time-Keepers. Loki is given a choice between fixing all the timelines he broke with the Tesseract and death at the hands of the TVA.
