Disney+ series Loki has released its fourth episode and there’s a lot going on… like A LOT. Just like every other Marvel project, it’s filled with Easter Eggs and references. Just like Pokemon, we tried our best to “catch ‘em all.”

- Sylvie’s History:
Young Sylvie is playing with her toys, and is reenacting a battle involving one of the Valkyrie. But hang on… Young Sylvie wants to save Asgard. Even though Sylvie doesn’t get the answer from Ravonna about what made her a variant, perhaps it was the change of heart?
Loki is always ‘supposed to’ be the villain, as Mobius explained in the first episode that he brings out the best in people when he does something to hinder them or creates a problem for them, thus making him the perfect villain.
Now, humor me for a second, but this could possibly explain why there was such a rapid and strong surge that created the Nexus event in their final moments on Lamentis, as them feeling things for each other and possibly abandoning their individual plans was the deviation from their path.
- Loki sees a familiar face:
Loki is caught in his own hell loop (like a tamer version of the one shown in Lucifer), and in it he is hit again and again by Lady Sif who is angry at him for cutting her hair without her permission. This is a direct reference to the original Norse mythology, as Sif once had her hair shorn by Loki, and Thor forced Loki to have a golden headpiece made for her.
- When talking about how much trouble Loki and Sylvie have caused, Mobius says,
You know, we brought in Kree, Titans, Vampires… Why is it the two orphaned demigods are such a pain in the ass?
Agent Mobius
In the MCU, Kree has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel and briefly again in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Kree are a blue-skinned humanoid race of extraterrestrial beings that hail from the planet Hala. In the comics, they are extremely militaristic, and are always increasing ‘The Kree Empire.’
If the TVA brought in Titans, this could also signify that when/if the Eternals tried to stop Thanos, they became variants who deviated from the Sacred Timeline and hence were reset. This could be one way of answers why they didn’t interfere in the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Guess we’ll have to wait till November 4 to know what really happened.
What made fans really curious, was the mention of Vampires. This is the first time that Vampires have been mentioned as a species in the MCU. This could be a sneaky remark at Blade: the Vampire Slayer reboot. The film has a speculated release date set for around October 2023 and will have Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the titular character. In the comics, Blade is a half-vampire half-human who wants to protect humans and slays vampires.
- Now that we know the Time Keepers are fake, who rules the Sacred Timeline?
Maybe… it’s been Miss Minutes all along. Or a possible hint at Kang The Conqueror, who is also set to be the main villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In the comics, Kang can time travel and is Ravonna’s love interest.
As pointed out by @mhadeedbutt on Twitter, just like Hunter B-15, A-23 was Ravonna’s number when she was a hunter, Avengers #23 features Kang the Conquerer and also where she makes her first comic appearance.
- So, You’re a Variant?
Episode 4 confirmed that in fact everyone working at the TVA is a Variant, or more like the first batch of variants. This might explain Mobius’ fascination of Jet-skis, maybe he used to jet-ski all the time and just took a different path while sliding down a snowy hill, ending up at the TVA.
- Into The Loki-Verse:
The post-credits scene gave us four different variants of Loki along with a crumbling Avengers tower in the background in a post-apocalyptic world. The Lokis come to the rescue when Ravonna prunes our Loki variant, sending him to a post-apocalyptic timeline.
The four Loki variants include Kid Loki (we see you Young Avenger), Alligator Loki (just like Spider-verse’s Spider-Ham), Classic Loki (in a WandaVision’s Westview-Halloween-style costume), and Boastful Loki (who’s carrying around a hammer like Mjolnir).
It seems like the story has a lot of loose ends to tie in just 2 episodes, as it was previously confirmed that Loki would be a standalone series. But then again, so much happened in this week’s episode and the series hasn’t been a disappointment so far, so we just have to wait and see how Loki reaches its conclusion.
