Netflix’s Witcher series just got a prequel this Christmas, going back 1200 years before the original series and detailing the events that led to the Conjugation of Spheres and the creation of the first Witcher. And since history has a way of repeating itself and setting up destinies in the future, the prequel was chockful of easter eggs and references.
If you missed a few, let us go through them one by one to fully enjoy the connections and predictions the prequel made for the original.
Let’s first take on Jaskier, who we already know as Geralt’s closest ally. The character reprised his role in the prequel, and Seanchai’s comment about him being the revered Sandpiper hints at his importance in the upcoming seasons of the original series.
His vitality as a friend and ally of the elves and magical creatures may be much more essential in history than previously shown. Speaking of Seanchai, the storyteller may have been called a Doppler by Jaskier, but we think the storyteller will have a much bigger role in the series as well.
Seanchai’s stories will act as a steppingstone for the characters going forward since her stories support the magical lore and history has a repetitive pattern in the Continent. The writers of The Witcher are currently discussing signing Minnie Driver for longer to feature Seanchai in the franchise’s future projects.
The Witcher: Blood Origin also introduces a few characters we will see or have seen in The Witcher. The prequel series presented our first look at the known seer Ithlinne, whose prophecies have yielded many destinies, including Ciri’s prophecy. And talking about Ciri, we also saw Avallac’h already fixating on Ciri, and we all know well enough what it means in the world of The Witcher.
Eredin was also introduced in the prequel, and we know he will rise to be the one who leads the Wild Hunt and will play a major role in the upcoming season of the original series. The Witcher’s prequel uses the Elven names of locations, and thus you might have missed the next few references – but worry not, for we’ve got you covered!
Did you know Princess Merwyn and Balor’s region, Xin’trea, is actually the elven equivalent of Cintra? Not only does this connect the Golden empire and Ciri, but it also gives us an idea about which region fell to the Nilfgaard in The Witcher season 1. We also see the Brolikon Forest being mentioned, the same woods destined to become the elves’ last stronghold and will be prominent in the upcoming seasons as well.
The Chaos magic, normal in Geralt and Ciri’s time, was introduced in the prequel series after High Priest Balor twists Syndril’s magic to create a new way to weave the magic of the Continent. The prequel also showed a more intense version of the Trial of the Grasses used to develop the Witchers. The flower used in the process, Feainnewedd, which we saw in season 1, highlights the presence of Elder Blood in Ciri’s system.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is a four-episode fantasy miniseries adapted from The Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. It also serves as a prequel to Netflix’s The Witcher.
