Apple TV’s See is coming back with season 3 tomorrow. The first episode will premiere at 12 AM PDT, and I can’t wait to witness the final chapter of this epic series. For the uninitiated, the story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where people have lost their sense of sight.
As a result, there are different ways in which people go about their day-to-day operations. In fact, the people are also divided into different factions such that each faction within a tribe has a specific set of abilities.
Ayuras, Presages, Scentiers, and Shadows are the different factions of a tribe such as Alkenny. Each of them has a different ability and purpose. While Ayuras, Presages, and Scentiers usually work together, Shadows work separately.
If you’ve seen only a few episodes, you would have heard of these terms. In a world without sight, the tribes are divided into factions such that each one builds expertise in a specific skill, which can be used in specific scenarios.
Although the world in the TV series has numerous flaws and loopholes, the creator, Steven Knight, has really thought through some aspects while designing and building it. So let’s jump in and understand each faction, its abilities, and its purpose.
Ayuras
The Ayuras have an enhanced sense of hearing. In episode 1, when Baba Voss is preparing for the battle against the Witchfinder and his army, they are the first to hear and tell what the army consists of.
However, their abilities have a bigger significance. They can hear lies and can tell the truth from the lies. This is because of how the person’s body acts while telling a lie, and they can sense how it is different from a scenario where they’re telling the truth.
Scentiers
Scentiers have an enhanced sense of smell. Their faces have markings and scars, which ensure that they can smell better than the rest of the people. They are mostly required in a battle or war because they can smell what’s coming from far away.
These beings also work together to create a larger impact and warn what’s approaching them. The Scentiers and the Ayuras have been seen working together in See every time Baba Voss goes into a battle with the Queen’s soldiers or the Trivantian army.
Presages
The Presages are a connection between the mortal world and the metaphysical one. They are almost like a blend of enhanced-empathetic beings and soothsayers. Although they don’t predict the future, it’s almost like a gut feeling or a hunch that they work with. This is attributed to their ability to sense emotions and certain metaphysical aspects.
Paris was a presage, and she was one of the wisest people of the Alkenny tribe. She was also one of the reasons why Baba Voss and his family were safe for so long.
Shadows
While the Ayuras, Scentiers, ad Presages are closely connected, the Shadows are a different league altogether. They essentially walk and move in such a way that the Ayuras or any other beings cannot hear them.
In fact, they are usually tasked with moving with the people without them ever realizing and spying on them. Bow Lion was a shadow from the Alkenny tribe, and her skill was handy in several places for Baba Voss and his family.
Overall, these are the various factions of the tribes in Apple TV’s See. Early in the show, we see scenes written in which the various factions are being identified and leveraged for specific situations. However, later on, the scenes become faction-ambiguous, which leads to minor loopholes in the screenplay.
The third and final installment of the show will be premiering tomorrow. Watch it on Apple TV+ at 12 AM PDT.
