Lifetime Drops First Teaser For Harry And Meghan: Escaping The Palace

The first teaser for Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace has been released. Based on the after events of the titular characters’ widespread Megxit from serving as active members of the Royal family, the movie is a sequel to 2018’s Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and 2019’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal.

The cable channel debuted the teaser on their Instagram page, which sees Prince Harry and Meghan get ready for their infamous bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, revealing dark details about their time with the Windsors. Meghan’s entry into the Royal family became a sensation amongst tabloids and continues to be documented incessantly by the paparazzi.

This has led to the former actress facing backlash from media outlets and the general public. That sentiment has been touched upon by Prince Harry in the teaser as he notes to his wife, “I see you literally being hounded to death, and I’m helpless to stop it.”

This feeling extends to the Royal family’s treatment of Meghan as well, who, according to her, was very unsupportive of her needs. However, despite all the hardships as the Duchess of Sussex, Markle has persevered, and as her movie counterpart says, “I am the person who is strong and gets things right.”, probably doesn’t ring too far from the truth.

But amidst all the anguish and strife, there are moments of joy as the teaser sees the couple play with their firstborn son, Archie, while preparing for the birth of their second, daughter Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

Escaping the Palace will follow Harry and Meghan’s life post-Megxit, settling into their new California abode and dealing with mental trauma resulting from the constant media scrutiny. Replacing Becoming Royal’s Charlie Field and Tiffany Smith, actors Jordan Dean and Sydney Morton have stepped in to play the couple.

The sequel was announced to be in development in March 2020, and the official release date is yet to be revealed.

As one of the focal points of current pop culture references, the movie is bound to see a lot of mixed reviews similar to its real-life inspiration. Although judging by the poignancy shared between both, here’s hoping the response will be kinder this time.
