Shinohara and Sarasa create a plan to rescue Himeji from Noa in episode 5 of Liar, Liar, titled “A Dead Heat and Determination.”

Noa has kidnapped Himeji and holds her hostage until the game tomorrow. Meanwhile, Sarasa and Shinohara develop a strategy to win the card game while saving Himeji. However, Shinohara notices something suspicious during the game.

He realizes she’s playing very odd cards and finally figures out what Himeji is trying to tell him. While Noa watches from the sidelines, the two put on a show to force the game into a draw.

Episode 6 of the Liar Liar anime has been released on Saturday, Aug 05, 2023. The episode title or preview has not been shown.

2. Speculation

Noa has not given up yet, taking Himeji hostage again to force Hiroto into playing a game with her. With zero preparation and this sudden escalation of events, Shinohara might have a difficult time in this Tabletop game.

He will likely fall behind in the start considering Noa’s intelligence as Six Star reputation. However, he has the secret ability card Sarasa gave him the previous night, which may prove the key to his eventual victory.

3. Recap

Noa warns Shinohara to avoid trying to win tomorrow’s game since Himeji’s life is at stake. He discusses the situation with Sarasa, and although drunk, Kaguya walks in at the perfect time. She discusses tomorrow’s game rules, another card-type game.

Himeji sends a text message to Shinohara with the abilities she plans to use tomorrow, and they try to adapt their strategy accordingly. Sarasa takes the lead and tries to create a plan in the worst-case scenario where they get a Commoner card, the weakest type.

Shinohara decides to try the same cheat he used in the previous game i.e., making the opponent believe he can use a Six Star ability called Enchant. Sarasa stays over for the night since she can’t go home this late, but neither can she fall asleep. She hands him a secret ability card as a sign of trust that he can win tomorrow’s game.

The following day, the game begins between Himeji and Shinohara while Noa watches. Her first move is to use Forced Control to control three game turns completely, putting her at a significant advantage. However, Shinohara notices a secret message within the game that only he would recognize.

Noa starts to get angry at Shinohara’s weird moves, throwing away all his good cards until he’s left with just a Commoner card. Himeji can now win the game if she plays an Assassin card, but she plays the Queen card instead. This triggers his Trojan Horse card that transfers half of her cards to him, forcing a draw.

The State of Conflict ends since the match has technically finished, and Noa is pissed that they outsmarted her. Shinohara doesn’t let her leave and confronts her about her true intent behind this game. She explains that she was jealous of Shinohara taking her number one spot in the popularity poll but also reveals her backup plan to destroy Himeji’s device.

She takes the maid hostage, challenging Hiroto to a final game with all the stakes. Unless he wins this game, he will lose his reputation and Himeji.

Liar Liar is a psychological light novel series written by  Haruki Kuou and illustrated by  Yukina Funa. The series is set for an anime adaptation.

The story takes us to Academy Island where a student’s rank is determined by the number of stars he/she can collect in a special type of duel called ‘game.’

Sarasa Saionji was the absolute champion of this game with 7 stars, till one day a transfer student named Hiroto Shinohara dethrones her on the very first day.
