Kugasaki wants to discover the truth behind Shinohara’s rise and expose him for the liar he is, thus challenging him to a game. In twenty years of Academy history, there has not been one instance of a One Star winning against a Five Star, but that will change soon.

With all of Himeji’s ploys brought down by Kugasaki’s advanced strategies, it all comes down to Shinohara’s intelligence. Calm and coolly, Shinohara tricks his opponent, and everyone present, to take the victory from the king.

1. Episode 4 Speculation

More lies are revealed in each episode, and we are led to question everything said in the anime. Sarasa had never truly been kidnapped, and it was all a ploy to protect her family, which motivates Shinohara even further and progresses their relationship.

The next episode will continue more on their developments and will likely have one of Sarasa’s games next. Since Shinohara had his moment in this episode, next episode might focus on Sarasa.

3. Recap of Episode 3

A new opponent, Kugasaki Seiran, drops down from a tower in front of Saionji and Shinohara. He introduces himself and challenges Shinohara to a game in two days, and he gladly accepts, even taunting him the entire time.

In their next strategy meeting, Saionji comes to Shinohara’s house in disguise and is surprised to find Himeji there since she had previously served her family. She explains the rules of the card game and also explicitly tells Shinohara that his chances of winning are less than 1%.

Considering his opponent is a Five Star, he can easily adjust the game’s settings such that he’s at an overwhelming advantage. Even with cheating, it will be challenging for him to win, but he will place all his bets on his luck augments and Numerical Adjustment.

During the game, Himeji guides him while keeping track of Kugasaki’s movements and cards. They find out he’s been using the Explore ability to find cards that haven’t revealed themselves yet, and even Himeji is stumped. Not only is Kugasaki picking up cards before Shinohara, but he’s also blocking all his opportunities and paths to get back in the game.

Shinohara gets injured after falling during an attempt to get the card 17, one of the highest numbers. However, he refuses to go to the emergency room and forfeit the game even after Sarasa tries to convince him. Ultimately, she reveals that she has been lying about the kidnapping story.

Himeji also shows up and tells him that Kugasaki has already collected 16 cards of the 18, but Shinohara is confident of his victory now. Scheming a new lie in his head, he boldly moves into the second phase of the game with just his two cards against Kugasaki’s entire deck.

Shinohara immediately yields during the start of the game, but before the winner is announced, he questions what the condition is to end the game. Tweaking things behind the scenes, he made the rules such that the game would end immediately if either side runs out of cards. This would bring it to an end right now before Kugasaki can even show his deck.

Assuming the Reveal phase is done, Kugasaki discards his cards. Shinohara reveals the next lie then; the rules had never been changed because all he did was use a Display Bug. He hadn’t discarded all his cards, ending with him having the only card in the Reveal Phase and granting him the victory.
