Saionji takes over the game in episode 9 of Liar, Liar, titled “Facing Off and Flushing Out.”

Using her doppelganger ability, Saionji infiltrates teams by pretending to be a member. She then waits for the perfect opportunity to eliminate them from behind and then move on to the next group. Hiroto is aware of their ability and prepares for it.

A giant smokescreen covers the entire area during the Afternoon game, but everybody seems normal. Before they can recollect, the team is flanked by the Demon Maiden.

2. Episode 10 Speculation

The smokescreen that blinded Eimei Academy for a few seconds was probably Saionji’s attack. It’s almost certain that one of their team members has been replaced since there have been no reports of Saionji’s attacks after the smokescreen incident.

It is likely that Shinji or Nanase have been replaced since both Himeji and Noa have been with Hiroto for the other games. They have also shown vital characteristics and abilities that only the two can do.

Shinji and Nanase didn’t participate in the Afternoon game, probably because one has been replaced. Although the story alludes to it being Nanase, it’s likely just misdirection from Shinji.

3. Recap of Episode 9

Saionji makes mincemeat of the other teams by disguising herself as a teammate and destroying them from within. Himeji relays the news to the rest of the group, and they discuss how she manages to copy anybody’s appearance.

Keeping track of all their teammates has become essential so they don’t get tricked. Hiroto visits the real Saionji to discuss the doppelganger, and they realize that Kururugi is probably their biggest obstacle.

On the Third day of ASTRAL, more teams collapse from within thanks to her doppelganger ability. Nanase starts splitting from the group and speeding away as usual, and Shinji begins arguing with her. They’re interrupted by a colossal smokescreen, and everyone loses visibility of the other for a few seconds.

Enomoto and Nanase decide to drop out of the game for today since they would hold the team back. They get an alert from Kaguya saying that two teams are flanking them. Hiroto plans to face the Demon Maiden and her crew alone and shows off his arsenal of abilities.

Kururugi uses One-Shot Kill, but Himeji jumps in front and takes the attack, sacrificing her life points. They retreat and lure them further away into a trap where they place a Counter-attack spell. The battlefield is littered with mines, which take out each member individually.

Hiroto has Kururugi on the ropes, but she uses Freeze Time to stop him and retreat. Shinohara creates a new plan which needs him to be eliminated, so he shoots himself. Eimei Academy is far down in the rankings and is struggling to stay in the tournament.
