As much as The CW’s Superman & Lois is all about the titular couple and their super-parenting, the show’s creators deserve a shoutout for keeping the bigger picture thriving in the background. The latest episode’s surprise reveal of a mystery antagonist, Leslie Larr, was nothing short of a jolt. So, who is Leslie Larr, and what do her Kryptonian superpowers mean for the Kents?
In October 2020, when Superman & Lois added Stacey Farber to its cast as Leslie Larr, fans were sure the character was a play on the Supergirl comics’ Lesla-Lar. However, the third episode of Superman & Lois seems to tie her character to Superman instead. Leslie is introduced as an ally of the show’s most likely villain, Morgan Edge.
What does this revelation mean for the series’ plot? Here is everything we know.
1. Superman & Lois Episode 3: Ending Explained
The CW’s Superman & Lois has quickly climbed to the top of the list of favorite Superman stories ever told in DC history. What with Superman and Lois Lane raising two hormonal teenagers in a hometown laden with all kinds of dangers, from past life nemeses to power-hungry corporate sharks.
The third episode of the first season focused on Lois Lane as she dug deeper into her investigation into Morgan Edge and the corporate empire. Then there was some super-parenting from both Superman and his past-life love, Lana, who was seen struggling with a teen daughter, Sarah.
Meanwhile, super-son Jordan was trying to find his place on his brother Jonathan’s football team. The newly-discovered superpowers in Jordan seemed to have worked wonders for his confidence, even if the ethics of using superhuman abilities to get on the team remain a concern.
This gives us some super-helicopter parenting from Clark, who joins the team as an assistant coach, priming the show to create some fun moments.
Back to Lois and her investigations, which take her to a woman named Sharon Powell. It turns out Sharon’s son Derek went missing soon after joining Morgan’s company in New Carthage. Soon after, Lois’ station wagon is firebombed by a metahuman when she visits Sharon’s motel room.
Superman manages to save the day by arriving just in time to save Lois and Sharon from Morgan’s assailant. Lois, too has some badass moments of her own when she stabs the stranger with a pen. However, all this does not sit well with Morgan, whose assistant Leslie Larr goes on to heat-vision the assailant to death soon after.
Now, it’s time for some digging into who this red-eyed woman could be, ’cause we sure ain’t seen her in the comics or any other Superman adaptation stories so far.
2. Who is Leslie Larr in the comics?
Superman & Lois maybe adopting many aspects of the DC comics, but Leslie Larr’s character ain’t part of that. The character is nowhere to be found in the comics, which is why there is not much to know about her role on the show just yet.
That said, we can make some educated guesses to piece together who this mystery woman could be. Leslie Larr could be a cover-up for Lesla-Lar, or one of the many characters who go by the name Lara and are linked to Superman’s Kryptonian family.
3. Is Leslie Really Lesla-Lar?
There is no confirmation—official or not—about which character has inspired Leslie Larr’s on the show. Let us find out more about the first guess, Lesla-Lar, and see potential plot points there.
The story of Lesla-Lar goes back to the Supergirl days when she was extremely jealous of Supergirl’s fan following on Earth-Prime. Lesla’s jealousy soon knew no bounds, and she left Superman’s Fortress of Solitude to fulfill her criminal aspirations.
Using a special ray on Supergirl, Lesla stripped her of superpowers on the very day that Superman was going to reveal Supergirl to the world. She then impersonates Supergirl so she can live her fifteen minutes of fame.
But her schemes are soon revealed, and she is arrested by Kandorian authorities only to be killed in the Phantom Zone. That’s pretty much it. Lesla has had a very short stint in the DC’s Superman/Supergirl mythos.
If Superman & Lois were to reveal her as the inspiration behind Leslie Larr, she is very likely to become the nemesis of Man of Steel instead of Supergirl’s. Lesla-Lar shared Superman’s Kryptonian physiology, which coincides with Leslie’s heat-vision stunt on the show. It is also not very hard to notice the similarities between the names Leslie Larr and Lesla-Lar.
4. Could Leslie Larr Actually Be a Kryptonian Lara?
Since we are talking about Leslie Larr actually being a cover-up identity for an older comics character, we should consider all our options. This includes the Kryptonian Laras of DC comics. There are not one or two, but three different characters named Lara in the DC universe.
The first one is Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s biological mother from Krypton, who died when the planet was destroyed. Exciting family drama, but major plot holes with reviving a dead character.
The next Lara is Lara Lane-Kent, Lois and Clark’s imaginary daughter, whose vision is shown to Superman by the antagonist Mr. Mxyzptlk. In this imaginary future, Clark trains Lara how to use her abilities, and she goes on to become Supergirl.
However, this story is a tad dark because Clark actually dreams up this future after he kills a pregnant Lois in the comic book Injustice: Gods Among Us. The master trickster Joker manipulates him into doing so. There goes a whole other can of worms to be opened if this is the Lara on the show.
The third option for Leslie’s secret identity is Lara from the comics’ Earth-31. She was the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman with both Kryptonian and Amazonian powers!
This version of Lara was named after her grandmother Lara Lor-Van, grew up on Paradise Island and never knew her father. Lara’s parents kept her hidden from all villains (Luthor and Brainiac), willing to control her powers.
As Superman’s daughter, Lara possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include the heat vision that we see Leslie Larr use to kill Edge’s failed assassin.
There is lots of potential for some family drama with Jordan and Jonathan getting themselves a super-sister (a tad evil, though!). Leslie is wearing a necklace with a red gem, possibly the red Kryptonite, which removes any inhibitions in a Kryptonian. Removing that piece of jewelry might just make her more likable as a Kent family member.
Leslie/Lara’s introduction to Superman & Lois could change the course of season 1 for the better. But for now, that’s all the theorizing I got for you. Do share your thoughts on this mysterious new entry on the show below.
