Yasuke is an upcoming anime based on an African origin samurai from 16th century Japan. Netflix announced the release of Yasuke along with upcoming animes like “Pacific Rim” and “Resident Evil.”
It is based on a true story about Japan’s first African samurai who fought against evil using his wits and blades. With Netflix’s ever-expanding list of original anime series, this seems to be another worthwhile series to not miss out on!
Lakeith Stanfield, known for his roles in movies like Uncut Gems, Get Out, will voice the main lead character Yasuke.
Netflix shared the first character designs on its official Twitter account along with Yonkou Productions who revealed the first poster of the anime on their Twitter account.
The visual features Yasuke and Oba Nobunga clad in historical outfits from the 16 century. The anime is said to premiere in 2021.
Mappa, the Japanese animation studio is producing Yasuke and they are widely known for their work in animes like Attack on Titan: The Final Season and Kakegurui.
The series is currently being produced by LeSean Thomas, the man responsible for the creation of another hit anime, Cannon Busters. He is credited as the creator, director, and executive producer for the anime.

About Yasuke
Set during a war-torn feudal Japan with mechs and magic, Yasuke is charged with the task of protecting a mysterious child who’s threatened by dark forces.
