Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a beautifully written classic space adventure with an original story. The show sheds light on politics by showcasing a world governed by democracy.
A 24-episode sequel to “Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These” has been announced through the franchise’s official website and Twitter account. Production I.G is returning to produce the sequel.
The sequel’s announcement was accompanied by a special news PV which featured a few prominent characters and dialogues from the series.
The Legend of The Galactic Heroes franchise began with a series of science fiction novels written by Yoshiki Tanaka.
The first anime adaptation for the franchise was produced by Kitty Films and aired from 1988 to 1997.
Nearly 18 years later, in the year 2015, North American anime and manga distributor Viz Media obtained the license to the franchise’s novels which gave rise to another anime adaptation by Sentai Filmworks starting on June 20, 2017.
The latest and ongoing anime adaptation from the franchise is an alternative version of the old 1988 series by Production I.G that ran from April to June 2018.
This series was followed by a 3-part film series that was launched from September to November 2019.
The upcoming sequel is the second part of this series with Production I.G returning to produce the show.
For over 150 years, two interstellar states have fought for dominance over the Milky Way. The Galactic Empire, a dictatorship is ruled by Kaiser Friedrich IV who wishes to squash the rebellion that dares to oppose him.
The Free Planets Alliance is a representative democracy led by a corrupt High Council that uses war and conflict as a means to win the people’s support.
The prevailing war between the two countries ends with the rise of two opposing military masterminds.
Galactic Empire’s Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li of the Alliance fight in the raging war between their countries to stand for their ideals and to be hailed as leaders of a new era of galactic heroes.
After one and a half centuries of losing men, resources, and time, the civil war in both countries comes to a finish.
In the upcoming season, we may get to witness more action between the democracy and the monarchy as well as Yang Wen-li and Reinhard von Lohengramm as they realize that they now could be considered each others’ nemesis and true equal.
