Sony decided to ditch the Summer Games Fest and E3 this year as well, as it seems to be favoring its State of Play events to share the news with the gaming community.
With a new event possibly slated for July, gamers are eager to see what the company has to offer.
While there are many leaks regarding the event, one credible insider has claimed that Sony has an ace in the hole, which has yet not been leaked.
State Of Play has been the go-to event for PlayStation to talk about its upcoming titles. In previous years, the event has been used to update fans on Horizon: Forbidden West, reveal The Last of Us Part 2’s release date, and show off some Ghost of Tsushima gameplay.
The following State of Play event date has been leaked, so some fans are looking forward to Thursday, July 8th, to hear from Sony. However, Sony has not yet officially confirmed this, so maybe don’t pen it into your calendar just yet.
Nick “Shpeshal Nick” Baker, Co-Founder of XboxEra, co-host of the XboxEra Podcast, and credible insider/leaker, is the one who has said that PlayStation is keeping a “big surprise” under wraps.
He tweeted that he is not sure how much of Sony’s show will be leaked, but he is sure that there is one big surprise that has yet to make it to the general public.
He has said that he hopes it remains unspoiled for the sake of the fans. Nick recently also leaked an upcoming standalone expansion to Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Ikishima, so this stance on not wanting things spoiled isn’t typical.
Fans are already making predictions on what this “big surprise” may be during this Sony’s Summer State Of Play.
Some popular theories are a second spotlight of Horzion: Forbidden West with a potential release date, news about other first-party exclusives such as God of War: Ragnarok, which was delayed this year, or the much-awaited The Last of Us multiplayer game.
There is also the expectation of seeing more third-party exclusives such as Final Fantasy 16 or the upcoming Forspoken.
It’s also been recently confirmed that Insomniac Games is working on a new multiplayer game, but details are still scarce. It is possible that this project too may make an appearance at the upcoming State of Play event.
But it is difficult to say which, if any, of these rumors would correspond to the “big surprise” Shpeshal Nick had mentioned on Twitter. So we’ll have to wait for the actual event, whenever it is, to know what Sony has in store for us.
