A terrible tragedy has befallen the Law & Order: Organised Crime set in Brooklyn, where one of the crew members was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman early Tuesday morning.
The NBC TV series is currently underway in shooting Season 3, which will premiere in September. While filming was taking place in Brooklyn, Johnny Pizarro, 31, was shot dead on the NBC drama’s set, according to police reports.
Pizarro, a parking enforcement worker, was sitting in a parked car in Greenpoint when he was shot at 5:15 A.M. ET. After he was discovered, Pizarro was rushed to the nearby Woodhull Hospital Center in Brooklyn, where he was declared dead around 6:00 A.M.
Police have neither identified nor arrested the gunman responsible for the murder. An NBC and Universal Television spokesperson has released a statement after production was halted for the day.
We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and died as a result.
NBC and Universal Television have shared their condolences to the victim’s family, and they have promised that they will be working in communication with the police to ensure justice is delivered swiftly to Pizarro and his grieving family and friends.
We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.
New details have since come to light via Deadline. NYPD has been investigating the kill since they were alerted to the murder via a 911 call. A crew member revealed that he had seen a man fleeing the scene with “something under his shirt.”
The police have offered no other significant details apart from the fact that the victim was shot multiple times by the gunman. A 94th Precinct detective is currently working with Brooklyn North Homicide Unit on the case, and hopefully, new details will be made available soon.
Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for the mayor, has released a statement by the mayor to the public and Pizzaro’s loved ones.
The NYPD is actively investigating the fatal shooting of a crew member of Law and Order: Organized Crime early this morning. We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time, and we will work diligently to bring the suspect to justice and stem the tide of gun violence we are seeing.
No further details or statements have been released to the public on the ongoing case.
