PCs are the go-to device for web browsers, but gaming console manufacturers have been trying to integrate the tool into their machines for a while now.
Xbox especially has been trying its best to ensure that non-gaming-related activities are more accessible on its platform by utilizing Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft has been working diligently over the past years to improve the browser and add features for those on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Microsoft Edge is the company’s replacement for their previous web browser, the infamous Internet Explorer. The browser is available on several platforms, released on the Xbox One in 2015, and has been steadily improving with every update.
A few months ago, the developers added support for mice and keyboards for those using the browser through their Xbox console. We now have a new update coming to the systems that will add even more helpful features.
Along with the newest version of Edge’s release, we also got details of what we can expect with this update.
Some of the highlights include the ability now to use Google Stadia gaming apps through the browser.
Microsoft plans to release the Xbox Cloud Gaming service around the holiday season, and this browser update allows you to use another game streaming app through Google Stadia on Xbox consoles.
Users will also be getting other new features to the Chromium-based Edge browser on Xbox consoles.
The appearance of the updated browser is much the same as the desktop version, including favorites, vertical tabs, and Collections.
Gamers will also be able to use the browser to access Discord, a great addition considering the Discord app is not yet available on Xbox.
With the web version, users will be able to join voice calls and also use text channels. Keep in mind, microphone support for the web version of Discord is not yet supported on Microsoft Edge for Xbox.
The end of the year quarter is proving to be a big play for Xbox with not just this update but also the release of a number of new Triple-A games that are slated to come to Xbox Game Pass, including Halo Infinite. It’s an exciting time to be an Xbox fan.
