Latest One Piece Episode Censors Some Scenes From Manga

One Piece has been on air for 20 years and has amassed quite a large viewership in that time. The demographics of the anime, originally aimed at teenage boys, have now expanded to people of all ages. Due to their original demographic, gore or dark topics are rarely seen in One Piece. Recently, episode 908 was censored and differed from the events in the manga.

Currently set in Wano Country, the manga has included some controversial moments to set a theme of oppression and rebellion at bay for the arc. Kaido, currently in control of Wano Country, is a known drunk – evident from his method of ruling the country. Wano has been divided into sections of people based on their financial situation, with the villagers of Okobore Town starving for a while. The Strawhat Crew, being their usual self, stole a ship full of food for the residents of Okobore Town (thanks to Tama). However, the town was in tatters before the arrival of Luffy.

The buildup to assert the importance of Luffy’s gift was fairly strenuous. The villagers were seen trying to eat anything they could to fend off starvation with children crying in hunger while their parents scolded them with tear-filled eyes. The controversial panels followed, showing an elderly lady dressed in patchwork Yukata. With a starving baby in hand and a knife in the other, she was planning to put the toddler out of its misery. On the other side, an elderly man was seen praying for redemption as he prepared to hang himself. They are stopped in their tracks by a villager’s announcement of the arrival of the food.

Both of these scenes were edited out from the anime’s latest episode. The setting was the same, but the knife and the noose were not shown. This resulted in some fans questioning the decision to soften the edge of Kaido’s rule in Wano. However, it is no shock that the production house cut out infanticide and suicide from a show meant for teenagers.

About One Piece:

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age! Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. With his diverse crew joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
