Shiraishi gets Kubo a gift of chocolates in episode 5 of Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible, titled “White Day and a Destination for Feelings.”

As Shiraishi shares a lunch break meal with Kubo, she also talks about him to her friends as they figure out what qualities he could have to make someone like Kubo begin crushing on someone for once.

White Day arrives, and Shiraishi gives a return gift to his secret admirer and decides to let Kubo handle the job, but is entirely dense about the fact that Kubo is the one who gave it to him in the first place.

Shiraishi explains that he likes lunch breaks since he can quickly go wherever he wants and eat lunch by himself; he goes outside and finds multiple lovely places to eat lunch from and runs into Kubo once again.

She wants to eat lunch with him, tells him how delicious his lunch looks, and offers a trade. She tries to feed him, but he immediately backs off. Kubo takes his lunch with ease straight from his hand.

After the meal, she offers to eat lunch together again, and he accepts. She asks him what his favourite food is, and he says hamburger steak and continues with his meal. Later that day, Kubo is with her friends at the local Tenny’s.

They begin to talk about crushes and first loves and ask her if there is someone she’s interested in, and she immediately thinks of Shiraishi. They don’t approve of him and are confused about why she would be interested in someone like him.

They continue discussing and asking about his strong points and why she likes him, and she immediately gets flustered. Shiraishi wakes up early the next day and goes to class first, but Kubo is even earlier.

Kubo is listening to music and puts the other end of the earphone in his ear, and they listen together, sitting on the same seat. He gets flustered but Kubo continues to enjoy this situation with him.

Next up is Shiraishi’s turn to play his favourite kind of music, and she also gets him to talk about why it’s his favourite song and begins going on a tangent talking about it. She still thinks about it after coming back home.

He wants to give a return gift to Kubo, a box of chocolates and is shy about it but eventually asks her to go out somewhere else. He gives it to her and says he wants her to give it to whoever gave him the gift. 

Kubo teases him some more and leaves Shiraishi completely confused about who it was that gave him the gift, even though it is blatantly apparent.

Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible is a manga by Nene Yukimori. It was first launched in the Weekly Young Jump magazine in October 2019. As of December 2022, eleven volumes have been released.

The series focuses on Junta Shiraishi whose presence is so negligible that no one notices him. He is basically ignored by almost everyone except his classmate, Kubo.

Kubo loves to tease him and occasionally makes him do weird things in class just to see if anyone would notice.
