Kubo and Shiraishi exchange Christmas gifts in episode 3 of Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible titled, “The Nobody’s Gift.”

As Shiraishi explores a bookstore, he meets yet another member of Kubo’s family, who has the same traits and even brighter deduction than her sister. He manages to weasel his way out of an uncomfortable situation, but the consequences hit later.

As promised through text, they eventually go to hang out together for Christmas, and Shiraishi is tasked with finding her an appropriate gift. He decides on something perfect, and the bar is raised even higher.

Recap of Episode 3

Shiraishi walks up the stairs, runs into Kubo yet again, and returns the tracksuit to her. She asks him how tall he is, and he says he is 5 foot 4. She teases him and says that the ideal height difference is 6 inches.

Shiraishi rushes out of school since he has something to do. He is in charge of babysitting his little sibling, and people constantly think he is alone. Kubo also shows up at the park and runs into him again.

Seita is a little shy and says hello to Kubo. She offers him some juice, and Seita takes it, drinks it with pleasure, and offers it to everyone else there. They share it and have each of their shares.

Even Shiraishi takes a sip, much to his joy, and Kubo teases that he is scared to have an indirect kiss. Shiraishi is at a bookstore and goes to buy some magazines but is unable to get through the crowd.

Eventually, they move, and he accidentally picks up an ecchi magazine and gets noticed by one of the workers there. He explains himself, but it sounds like a blatant lie, but the worker understands him completely.

It is revealed that the worker was Kubo’s sister, which explains a lot. Kubo has Shiraishi’s id card and teases him a little bit, and she asks him his preference for women since her sister might have told the entire situation to Kubo.

Kubo reminds Shiraishi of his promise to hang out with her someday and asks him for days when he is free. He has nothing going on, so he is free every day, and he shows up 30 minutes early and walks around.

Kubo reaches there 10 minutes early and Shiraishi lies to her about how before he came, but she figures him out instantly. She gives him a gift, and now it’s his turn to find a gift for her. He goes to find something for her.

He browses all the woman’s sections and tries to decide on something when he eventually stumbles on something perfect. He runs to Kubo and gives her a pair of mittens, and she gets flustered.

She now regrets her gift, a yellow t-shirt that says “Main Character” ironically, and he claims that he doesn’t hate it.

Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible is a manga by Nene Yukimori. It was first launched in the Weekly Young Jump magazine in October 2019. As of December 2022, eleven volumes have been released.

The series focuses on Junta Shiraishi whose presence is so negligible that no one notices him. He is basically ignored by almost everyone except his classmate, Kubo.

Kubo loves to tease him and occasionally makes him do weird things in class just to see if anyone would notice.
