DC showrunner, Greg Walker addresses the chances of HBO Max renewing Titans for a fifth season.
2022 has been a rough year for the DCEU TV shows as things have been changing at Warner Bros. Discovery following the merger of the two studios. The CW also recently got a new majority stake owner, leading to major DCEU shows such as Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow getting canceled.
HBO Max has also pulled back on some of the DCEU’s upcoming shows, such as Constantine and Madame X, which are no longer happening on their streaming platform.
Though several DC TV shows have been removed from the WBD network, Titans season 4 is still on the way, ready to premiere in early November. In light of the studio’s multiple cancelations, Titans’ future seems uncertain. HBO Max has not yet renewed it for season 5.
Earlier, Titans have sometimes been given an early renewal even before the premiere of their new season. Recent reports have hinted that Titans is safe on HBO Max for now. Recently, Greg Walker, one of the creatives behind the series has shared his thoughts on the matter.
The creative team and cast of Titans were recently spotted at New York Comic-Con, promoting the upcoming Titans season 4. While there wasn’t a season 5 renewal, the showrunner addressed the future of the series.
In a roundtable interview with Walker, the showrunner and executive producer explained that they are yet to hear about the Titans season 5 renewal. However, Walker also shared that HBO Max has been quite supportive of Titans.
Here’s what he said –
“You know as much as I do… [we’re] in a wait and see mode… we’re excited about this season. HBO Max is incredibly supportive of the show and really helping us become the show we want to be and get us in front of as many people as possible. If you’ve got an idea where it’s going, let’s meet and have a conversation because I want to know.”
Based on some of the confirmed plotlines for season 4, it seems like it’s being set up as the final season. This is another reason why fans are desperately waiting for a confirmation of the show being renewed for another season.
Titans season 4 will see the team facing one of their iconic villains from the comics, Brother Blood. Brother Blood’s arrival will also set up the dangerous cult, Church of Blood. The show will also finally deal with Superboy’s background with Lex Luthor.
However, the writers of Titan season 4 began their work as if it was usual business. It will not be surprising if the season 4 finale ends with numerous plot threads and cliff-hangers that could set up a potential season 5.
If HBO Max decides to cancel Titans, it will be another addition to the list of DC TV shows that could not continue on its own accord. The same applies to Doom Patrol season 4, as HBO Max hasn’t yet confirmed picking it up for a fifth season.
What would be ideal is HBO Max renewing Titans for one final season, which will enable the creative team to wrap up all the storylines satisfactorily. Hopefully if Titans season 4 becomes a success, it will prompt HBO Max to renew the series for another season.
