KonoSuba is on a quest to level up its game with two new productions coming out soon. The franchise recently announced the third season and an anime adaptation of the prequel spin-off featuring Megumin.
Her popularity resulted in a spin-off light novel series with the mage as the protagonist as many wanted to know more about her. The franchise didn’t want the anime-watchers to miss out on Megumin’s story, so they gave us an adaptation of the light novel series.
KonoSuba: An Explosion on this Wonderful World! anime teases Megumin’s past and confirms the spin-off’s 2023 debut.
Despite being the hero’s love interest, Megumin is not a damsel in distress but can definitely put others in tremendous distress. She soon became a fan favorite due to her exceptional magic and eccentric personality, the only catch being her chuunibyou tendencies.
The credit for her powerful explosion magic goes entirely to Wolbach, one of the eight generals of the Demon King. Wolbach may be an antagonist in the series, but she has quite a wholesome past with Megumin.
Considering this, it only makes sense that Wolbach will have a significant role to play in the upcoming spin-off. The teaser also confirms her prominent role as Megumin began taking an interest in explosion magic after being saved by Wolbach and inspired by her skills.
The Demon King’s general eventually teaches a young Megumin all about explosion magic, resulting in the girl idolizing Wolbach.
Moreover, Rie Takahashi and Aki Toyosaki are returning to voice Megumin and Yunyun from the main series. The spin-off will also be revolve around the Crimson Magic Clan to which Megumin belongs to.
I’m looking forward to seeing more Wolbach because she hasn’t made many appearances in the main series.
Also, considering how she’s closely associated with the Demon King, Wolbach having a soft spot for Megumin will be interesting to watch.
