Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook’s rankings are one that every manga reader anticipates the most. This yearly rating of manga series might not seem much to others, but the otaku community treats it like a sacred text.
The guidebook is similar to ‘Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!’ and is also published by Takarajimasha.
Like every year, the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook has revealed manga rankings for the year 2023, which are as follows.
First, we have series rankings for male readers:
Title | Author |
The Summer Hikaru Died | Mokumokuren |
Goodbye, Eri | Tatsuki Fujimoto |
Takopi’s Original Sin | Taizan 5 |
Akane-banashi | Yūki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue |
Gekiko Kamen | Takayuki Yamaguchi |
Kore Egaite Shine | Minoru Toyoda |
Super no Ura de Yani Sū Futari | Jinushi |
One Piece | Eiichiro Oda |
You and I Are Polar Opposites | Kōcha Agasawa |
Midori no Uta: Shūshū Gunfū | Gao Yan |
While there are some great new series on the list this year, One Piece still made it to the list. It’s the greatest manga of all time for a reason, after all.
Next, we have series rankings for female readers:
Title | Author |
Tenmaku no Jadūgal: A Witch’s Life in Mongol | Tomato Soup |
Gene Bride | Hitomi Takano |
Serious Office Worker | Umeko Fuyuno |
Onna no Ko ga Iru Basho wa | Ebine Yamaji |
Star Tripper | Sakana Sakatsuki |
Umi ga Hashiru Endroll | John Tarachine |
Busu Nante Iwanaide | Araka Toaru |
Taiyō Yori Mabushii Hoshi | Kazune Kawahara |
Tamon-kun Ima Docchi!? | Yuki Shiwasu |
Watashitachi wa Mutsū Renai ga Shitai | Yukari Takinami |
Last year, Fujimoto’s Look Back manga was #1 for male readers, and in 2020 it was his immensely popular Chainsaw Man reigning on top. This year the mangaka’s ‘Goodbye, Eri’ came second, but it’s still a remarkable feat to be on the list consecutively.
As for the female readers, John Tarachine’s ‘Umi ga Hashiru Endroll’ topped last year but is now at #6. Its place is now taken by Tomato Soup’s ‘Tenmaku no Jadūgal: A Witch’s Life in Mongol.’
The rankings this time are yet again accurate and were within the readers’ expectations.
This year’s list contains some new and exciting titles, which I highly recommend you all to check out.
