The upcoming anime, “Komi Can’t Communicate,” is a perfect example of overcoming introversion with a wish “to make 100 friends” that’s even hard for extroverts to achieve.
The series is adapted from the manga with the same name written and illustrated by Tomohito Oda. The manga is exciting with a unique storyline, and being an introvert myself, I’m looking forward to seeing how Komi faces her daily obstacles.
Komi Can’t Communicate has secured its spot as the rom-com of the year, with many waiting for the anime to make its debut. The show has already started broadcasting in Japan, and the global audience will be able to enjoy it in no time.
1. Komi Can’t Communicate Anime Release Date
Komi Can’t Communicate anime is scheduled to premiere globally on October 21, 2021. It will be streamed weekly exclusively on Netflix, exactly 15 days after its broadcast in Japan on October 7. It will have a total of 12 episodes.
Netflix will be streaming the rom-com anime in over 190 countries, with the show being dubbed in eight languages and subtitled in 31 languages.
The tweet also teases a stunning opening theme ahead of its premiere.
2. Key Visual
The key visual depicts the daily school life of Komi and her classmates. It shows Ren Yamai holding on to a pen, while Himiko Agari is in a state of shock. Najimi Osana at the right corner is seen eagerly posing for a selfie.
Omoharu Nakanaka is seen at the bottom left corner, while Hitohito Tadano walks behind Komi. The visual displays how energetic Komi’s friends can be.
Two trailers have been released so far for the upcoming anime, “Komi Can’t Communicate.”
The first trailer starts with a beautiful cherry blossom scene. It shows how everyone around Komi is smitten by her beauty and grace and how Tadano is initially intimidated by her.
It ends with a hilarious scene where Komi tells Tadano on the blackboard that her dream is to make 100 friends and threatens him not to laugh about it.
The second trailer goes on to show how Tadano tries his best to make Komi’s dream come true. He goes on to request his classmates to be friends with Komi. While some gladly accept his request, some dishearten poor Tadano.

Here are some of the characters in the upcoming anime:
I. Shouko Komi
Shouko Komi is the main protagonist who is bad at communicating with people. She likes cats and is usually seen wearing her school uniform.
II. Hitohito Tadano
Hitohito Tadano is also one of the main characters of the anime. While appearing to be nothing but ordinary, he possesses exceptional observation skills.
III. Najimi Osana
Najimi Osana is a person whose gender is unknown. Osana is also the complete antithesis of Komi Shouko, possessing phenomenal communication ability to get close to anyone within a few minutes of meeting them.
IV. Ren Yamai
Ren Yamai is one of Komi Shouko’s classmates from Class 1-1 and her stalker. She is the leader of the “Cool Girls” group in her class.
V. Omoharu Nakanaka
Omoharu Nakanaka is a student who usually speaks in dubious speech as a result of being a chuunibyou. She sports a chuunibyou-like fashion even during school hours.
VI. Himiko Agari
Himiko Agari is a girl with glasses who has been a library committee member for a year. She finds solace in toilet stalls as she’s weak against peer pressure, having no confidence in herself.
5. Plot/Storyline
Komi Can’t Communicate tells the story of Shoko Komi, an elegant young woman who is rarely seen talking to others.
She enrolls at Itan Private High School where she gets placed in the same class as Hitohito Tadano. Tadano is a thoroughly average boy who prefers to keep his head down and not stick out from the crowd.
Komi develops a reputation for being hard to approach due to her intimidating beauty and aloof demeanor. Tadano discovers that she is actually very nice but painfully shy and socially awkward.
Despite not being particularly popular himself, Tadano decides to help Komi overcome her social anxieties and achieve her dream of making 100 friends.
6. Theme Songs
The theme songs of Komi Can’t Communicate anime have been confirmed.
The anime’s opening theme song is titled “Cinderella,” performed by the Japanese rock band Cider Girl. A preview of the opening theme song is given in the trailer.
Kitri will perform the ending theme song “Hikareinochi.” The PV also previews the ending theme song.
