There’s Still Hope For A Spider-Man x Venom Crossover At Marvel

Marvel president Kevin Feige teased a Venom x Spider-Man crossover in a new interview with Rotten Tomatoes while talking about MCU’s Phase 4 projects.

With Spider-Man: No Way Home set for a release in theaters on December 17, 2021, fans have already started making theories about Spider-verse and how it might play a part in the film.

But before that, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will have its theatrical debut on September 24, 2021.

Feige said that he wouldn’t ‘rule out’ any possibilities of a crossover,

“I don’t want to obviously talk about rumors or speculation on what could happen and what couldn’t happen as it relates to any characters that Marvel Studios hasn’t brought to the screen yet.

But I will say what I’ve always said, which is having been with Marvel for 20 years, I wouldn’t dismiss anything. I wouldn’t rule anything out completely. When and how and where remains to be seen. Any rumor that you read online could happen anytime between tomorrow and never.”

This comes just about a month after Sony President Sanford Panitch talked to Variety about the possibilities of having a Spider-Verse like crossover,

“We don’t really think of our 900 characters as the Spidey-verse. We have a Marvel universe. The volume of characters we have — you know, wait until you see this next ‘Venom.’ You don’t miss Spider-Man… It’ll be exciting if they do meet, right?”

Marvel Studios co-produce the Spider-Man films with Sony as Tom Holland’s version is set within the MCU.

However, Marvel has no direct creative control over other Spider-verse characters spin-off films that Sony has been developing, like Venom, Morbius, or Kraven.

Venom is an immensely popular character, and the first solo film grossed $856.1 million worldwide. The film had no references to Spider-Man and also changed up his origin story a bit.

However, a crossover is still in the equation as the teaser trailer for Morbius featured Michael Keaton, who played the Vulture in the first Spider-Man film.

Sony and Disney still need to negotiate on which Spider-Man characters the MCU can use in their universe so Venom appearing in other Marvel projects stands undecided.

However, Spider-Man, Venom, Morbius, and all the Sony-owned Spider-verse characters can appear in a crossover if Sony wills it.

About Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films and TV series, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

The franchise includes comic books, short films, television series, and digital series. The shared universe, much like the original Marvel Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.
