I. Hayami Masaki- A Born Leader
Chapter 98 is concise compared to most of the chapters. It mainly sets the beginning for the eighth round of the tournament and introduces us to Masaki and his personality.
Masaki is an honest and plain-speaking individual whom everyone liked from his academy days. Although he never went to a Judo Academy, he was always a part of his school’s Judo Club and trained alongside the professionals.
He is a competent leader who can talk out a dispute without losing his temper. We get to see flashbacks from the day when Masaki singlehandedly negotiated with the judo team members to practice alongside them.
So basically, he is the epitome of a fine young man, whom even Okubo gets jealous of. Meanwhile, Ohma wonders how a fighter who practised judo just for fun can survive in this tournament.
However, Ohma admits that there’s something special about Masaki. He is much more talented than he looks.
II. Arashiyama Jurota vs. Hayami Masaki
Coming to the fight, Masaki takes a right grip stance, and Jurota takes a left grip stance. Referee Shiina Alisa stops the match immediately after it began and asks Hayami to take off his headphones.
He immediately apologizes for his mistake, stating that he forgot that he had those in. Narushima Koga rushes to the ring to take the headphones from him.
The match is about to start once again, but surprisingly, Masaki takes a left grip stance this time. He explains that his stance doesn’t matter as long as he wins.
