Keanu Reeves, the renowned actor known for his roles in films like Matrix and John Wick, has expressed his desire to play a specific Marvel character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite engaging in discussions with Marvel Studios, Reeves has yet to secure an official role as an Avenger or any other character in the MCU.
However, given his keen interest in portraying a specific superhero, he may soon join the Marvel Universe.
During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session for promoting John Wick: Chapter 4, Reeves was questioned about any roles he might have regretted turning down.
Although he denied having any, he did disclose the Marvel superhero character he had been interested in portraying throughout the years.
…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine.
Keanu Reeves’ interest in playing the character Wolverine has intensified since Marvel Studios obtained the rights to the X-Men franchise and introduced mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
While the upcoming movie Deadpool 3 is expected to feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, some speculate that Reeves could make his debut as Weapon X in future MCU projects.
Some can argue that Keanu Reeves may not be a suitable choice to play a new version of Wolverine due to his age.
However, thanks to his remarkable healing factor, Logan’s advanced age allows for a broader range of actors to portray him.
Besides, Reeves could play several other characters in the X-Men franchise, like Marvel’s Ghost Rider, aka, Johnny Blaze. The actor has previously voiced interest in the role too!
Keanu Reeves previously declined the role of Yon-Rogg, the villain in Captain Marvel, which Jude Law eventually portrayed.
Reeves is searching for a more significant role that he can genuinely get excited about. The actor is close to Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, who are equally interested in casting him in a future project.
Hopefully, they will consider Reeves for a role as significant as his previous roles of John Wick or Neo from The Matrix.
